I should get Fran and my ex-wife together...I'm sure they'd have plenty to talk about.
Same situation, although my ex figured it out towards the end of our marriage. It wasn't as though I'd even acted on it, but it was the proverbial elephant in the room. Add the issues we were already having about money and religion and we were better off as friends. The only difference (and complication) was that kids were/are involved.
Why isn't this in off-topic?
Off-topic for sure, but I read the thread title like Fran Drescher had been married to Miss Go-Go's son... couldn't figure that one out.

I did the same, jp.
"He's so out that I would like it if he reined it in a bit. "
Way to be supportive there, mom!
Carlisle talked about it on The View this week and she seems very supportive.
And this quotidian stuff is of interest because...? Fran Drescher's enormous celebrity status? Belinda Carlisle's continuing excellence in musical endeavors? The astounding dearth of gay men in entertainment and politics?
That sound you hear may be the scraping of the bottom of the barrel.
Fran Drescher's enormous celebrity status?
Actually, since The Nanny went worldwide, her celebrity status is international. My partner watched every episode in Spain and adores her. It doesn't matter what she's done since then, though her efforts in cancer awareness and appointment as a US Diplomat sort of speak for themselves. As soon as she created an iconic character in a long-running series that went global and has since been constantly in syndication, she became a pretty big celebrity.
And The Nanny was a creation of hers and Jacobson's. Without him, the show probably would never have existed or been so successful. She has always been an advocate for the GLBT community as well as being considered a gay icon, so yes, the news is definitely "of interest".
I'm sure she appreciates your support. However, pantheon she definitely ain't, no matter how many countries have aired that show.
Who sh!t in your Wheaties this morning newintown?
I think it was Fran Drescher, but it could have just been Annie Potts.
Well they did the job cuz you REEK.
newintown - Who said Fran Drescher was a "pantheon"? And since when is being a "pantheon" a criterion for a Press Release? Personally, I find much more relevance in this article than 99% of what gets generated by the Hollywood gossip machine. You might want to fill up at the perspective station because it sounds like you may be running low.

Oh snap! You has been READ and put on the shelf to COLLECT DUST!
That's odd... my perspectivometer is reading "full"... Hmmm.
Glad you find "more relevance in this article than 99% of what gets generated by the Hollywood gossip machine," but I still can't shake the feeling that coming out stories about relatives of minor celebrities just don't cut it. (Particularly on a Broadway theatre board.)
Wait, is Carlise's son 17 now, meaning he came out when he was 12? Or did he come out at 17 and is in his 20s now?

According to Wikipedia, he just turned 18.
He came out at 17 and now he's 22. That's how I read it, anyway.

Despite the obvious subjectivity, what is it that they don't cut? Is it that they are not big enough celebrities for you? What are your standards and requirements for a Press Release? The article is not about celebrities coming out, but about their reaction to loved ones coming out. If there are no BIG celebrities coming out, then the subject deserves no press? I'm sort of in the camp that any article that attempts to raise the level of advocacy for equal rights and support of the GLBT community is worthwhile. I don't really understand the attempt to trivialize that.
Oops! Phyllis beat me to it. Guess I read it wrong.

It's Pride Month. The only thing this thread needs is to be moved to the Off-Topic Board and there will be nothing to bitch about.
You know, Belinda's husband, the son of James Mason, was a big mucky muck in the campaign to get Ronald Reagan elected. I remember when Belinda, the big stuffed Kewpie doll of The Go-Gos, was asked about this in the wake of her drug fueled libertine antics in the group she replied, "We only have one President and we should all respect him." Basically she was Britney before there was a Britney.
So does it come as a surprise to me that when her son came out she freaked out about his future career in politics? No. I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised, but instead she did the usual, "It's nobody's BUSINESS!!!! What about your FUTURE!?!?" freak-out that's completely in-keeping with the 1950s Upper Class Housewife Handbook.
The article sounds like Carlisle was worried that her son is the one who might feel inhibited by his sexuality in terms of a political career. It's really just a poorly written article:
However, the singer hopes James' sexuality won't inhibit his hopes of a political career: "Things have changed. There's pockets of people who would never accept a gay politician. But I think they just need education. It might take someone like him who is vocal to change people's minds."
I'll never understand people who obsessively revisit threads to post how uninteresting they are.

Okay, so he was 17 when that article was written (January '10) which means he was 12 when he came out. Unless the article is written wrong.

Fran did more than one play Off-Broadway and Belinda was in Hairspray in London. That means they have been in theatre and the thread doesn't have to be Off-Topic.

I didn't mean it as a critique of you at all. I meant that it could be a teeny tiny quibble for somebody looking for something to bitch about.
