Saw this last night and what a joyous welcome it was back into the theater. Kate Baldwin's smile and warmth enveloped the Kiser in a blanket, and her voice had the comfort of a mom tucking the audience into that blanket. Her songs from Finian's Rainbow are as beautiful as ever, but her ending of "New York, New York" and "Look for the Silver Lining" brought tears to my eyes. New York will once again rise from the ashes and while that will be a wobbly work in progress, we can't lose our hope.
It was a special night that was wonderfully provided free-of-charge by Second Stage. They gave us goody bags on our way out with some snacks and a brochure advertising their new season. I honestly wish I was more excited about their offerings because after last night's show, they have a fan in me. Maybe I'll check something out even though there are other shows that sit at the top of my list.
