I have it on very good authority that Fun Home will return to The Public in September of next year as a full production in the Newman theater. It is scheduled to run for about 3 months, It is however unknown how many member of the PublicLab production cast will return.

Posted: 11/4/12 at 11:26pmI am not at all surprised by this. It's been under development at the Public for some time, and has had excellent word of mouth... and is, indeed, a very strong piece of musical theatre.

Posted: 11/5/12 at 12:17amI'm very disappointed that I couldn't get tickets to the lab production. The graphic novel (given its provocative subject matter, episodic structure, and subtextual relationships) could actually be great for a slow-burn "concept" musical. With Tesori in the mix, I can trust that this is an honestly-intentioned adaptation. And possibly a very good one. Really hope that the OP is right!

Posted: 11/5/12 at 1:10amAt The Public's Block Party Oskar Eustis made an off-the-cuff comment when introducing the FUN HOME performance that it would be back in the fall. (And I'm sure it won't be in the Anspacher)

Posted: 11/5/12 at 1:24amIs it? The Anspacher is a thrust space and this show, especially in the form that it's currently staged in, would be more suitable in a proscenium theater - like the Newman, where GIANT is currently playing.

Yeah, unless they re-think the concept of the show so far (not unfeasible), it's set for a proscenium space. Not saying it couldn't work in the Anspacher (a more intimate theatre than the Newman), but they'd have to do a lot of tinkering with what they've got.
But the Newman is also their largest space and the best bet for what would be a very popular show.

Very excited to hear about Michael Cerveris and Judy Kuhn! Production dates September 30-November 3, with an official opening set for October 22nd.
For those who saw the Public Lab run, what can you say about the score?

Posted: 8/8/13 at 11:17pmThe Public's season (including FUN HOME) was announced back in April... not only is this old news, the news of FUN HOME returning wasn't a secret. Kuhn was in the Lab production. The only new members of the cast are one of the young boys and Cerveris.

But it was never confirmed that Kuhn would continue. She could've had something come up in her schedule, the director/creatives could've decided to go a different route. You never know.
Even so, I'm excited about Michael Cerveris and just as excited she's returning. Both will be very good. (I really loved this show-and I'm hit or miss with Jeanine Tesori.)
