Funk, Doyle, Trimm, Hoty, Ephraim and Schwencke Join Roundabout's 'BIRDIE'

It's really not that creepy. You guys are making it sound like a sex show. It's a very innocent musical, with maybe one or two pecks on the lips. Trimm is the exact age of Kim in the stage show, and Funk and Doyle look young enough to play opposite her.

The material, in my opinion, is still relevant. Putting a star on a pedestal that they don't necessarily deserve? Jonas Brothers or Zac Efron anyone?
I was looking forward to this show - especially since BBB was the first professional production I ever saw. Now, not so much.

Posted: 5/28/09 at 8:50pmI am very excited!! Gina is back in a musical again!! She was HEAVEN in Cabaret, and I think Allie is a talented young actress and Matt is pretty.

Posted: 5/28/09 at 8:54pmTrimm is 14. Kim is 15. Trimm will turn 15 during the run, I believe.

Re: Matt Doyle and singing
Rumor is that the creativeteam was looking for ways to have Matt's singing be featured.

NO comments on Dee Hoty? I thought that woman had crawled up somewhere and died!
AND Molly Ephraim? Are they digging these people up?

Well, the original film with Ann-Margaret turned One Boy into a duet to showcase Bobby Rydell's singing. It wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility to do the same for this revival.
My question is are any of the songs from the tour being included? I enjoyed "A Giant Step".

I am sure they are considering using the title song and Mae's song.
If they cut Rosie's One Boy Reprise/Dance to give Doyle something to sing... I will not be happy.

Posted: 5/28/09 at 9:40pmOther than the potential "icky" factor of Kim and Hugo's age difference, I'm excited about the casting. Trimm is fabulous, as is Doyle, though he is kind of wasted on a non-singing part. But at least he's getting work! We should be happy for him!

I hope they consider the Title Song!
VERY excited about Allie :) Can't wait to see this!

Posted: 5/28/09 at 10:19pmWell, I wanted to say something about Molly Ephraim but I was afraid I'd get bashed.
re: Funk, Doyle, Trimm, Hoty, Ephraim and Schwencke Join Roundabout's 'BIRD#39
Posted: 5/28/09 at 10:20pmWhy would you get bashed? I mean, she sucked in ITW, but I'm sure she's matured and will be fine in this.

Posted: 5/28/09 at 10:25pmSO EXCITED FOR ALLIE AND I PREDICTED IT AFTER 13 CLOSED. I knew about Matt Doyle and he will be good. I saw the Conrad in that mess called spectacular he could play it but I cannot fit him as Conrad in my mind.
re: Funk, Doyle, Trimm, Hoty, Ephraim and Schwencke Join Roundabout's 'BIRD#41
Posted: 5/28/09 at 10:31pmI was young then so I didn't think the ITW revival was that bad.

Posted: 5/28/09 at 10:49pmI think this cast, I was really annoyed by Gina Gershon's casting (Was it really that hard to find a talented latina) but I am excited by Trimm, Houdyshel, Irwin, and Ephraim (who was fantastic in End Days off broadway).

Posted: 5/29/09 at 12:02amI thought the Into the Woods revival was way better than the original and I don't care who knows it.

Posted: 5/29/09 at 1:05amI'm watching Smallville season 4 episode 14 "Krypto". Nolan Funk is playing a character named "Zack" and if this is any indication he's a lousy actor.

Posted: 5/29/09 at 11:06amHaving young kids, I've had to endure Spectacular a few times. Hard to seperate the less than stellar acting with the horrid writing. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Let's face it: Birdie is NOT the most complicated of roles.

Posted: 5/29/09 at 11:11amOh, God, I can't take Molly Ephraim.

All I've seen him in is that single episode of Smallville. And I totally understand that it's not the greatest point of reference. His acting, mostly, consisted of him standing with his mouth open and looking constipated.
I think my biggest problem is that I was hoping for another Birdie. Which isn't Nolan's fault and I'm not going to go around dissing him just because I'm disappointed in his being cast.
That being said - I'm not expecting much from his performance.
