Pretty much agree with everyone. I'd love to see Miss Saigon!!! There's a thread or two about it on imdb.com
So then, Is there a MISS SAIGON Film in the Making then?
I would love a good ACL movie. Something to block out the original movie. Not sure who shouldbe in it, but a couple of stars(3 or 4) just to give it that "star power".
But isn't A Chorus Line all about the people who AREN'T stars? Though yes, there does need to be one to block out that original movie.

Stagerage2003: There have been many rumors throughout the years, but never anything real... :/
miss saigon could still happen as a movie.
a few months ago cameron makintosh came to a show im in (its in his theatre)and we talked to him for ages after the show and had some drinks. My freind said to him how has saigon not been made in to a movie yet as it would be amazing and translate so well.Makintosh said that they were talking to 2 major stdios about it at the moment and he would love to see the show on film especially now since its closed in london and new york so fingers crossed.
Also i bet my life wicked is the next big one to go to film and i think that it will be amazing
Piazza and drowsy wont become films as they have only played in the states really so there is no commercial factor(also i think piazza is a bit to arty farty for a big screen adaptaion)
Miss Saigon, Les Miserables, Wicked, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Spamalot
If DRS were made into a movie, they should use Jonathan Pryce rather than Lithgow. He was MUCH better. I agree that Drowsy Chaperone wouldn't translate well to the screen. Likewise, I have trouble imagining a screen version of ACL that would capture the feeling of the piece. How about a remake of Mame to erase the debacle of Lucy?
Miss Saigon would be awsome, so would Les Mis i think Aida and Wicked would be good to.

It's rumored that Johnny Depp is set to be Sweeney--anyone now if this is true? Isn't Tim Burton directing it? It's going to be so twisted and awesome. I don't know about Johnny Depp though, but I could see him as Sweeney, maybe. Does he sing? I need to go look on IMDb, sorry.

I would love to see movie versions of Ragtime and Miss Saigon. I think both could translate well. While I love Les Miserables, I worry about how some scenes would translate to the screen.
I think, Norbert'll be a little too old to play that part again.

It would be very difficult to do Les Mis as a movie. There are many solos where the actors/actresses remain stationary. I can't imagine how they could make those into solos where they travel through different places. If that makes sense. Also, since the music is continuous throughout the musical, the pace must be kept fast as it jumps from one moment in time to a day or years later. I don't know if that would fit well in a movie. Also, "One Day More." How could that be adapted? I guess I'm not much of a visionary.

I believe Johnny Depp has been confirmed for Sweeney, "Entertainment Tonight" had a story about it the other day.
As for movies, I would like to see "Miss Saigon" as a movie, and "Les Miserables" but only if it could be done well. I think I would rather see a production video of "Les Miserables."
If Les Mis was turned into a movie, the concept would be nothing like the film, you must understand. It's like the movie Grease, there is no Car chase in the broadway play, but in the movie, they have a car chase...they wont be perfectly identical productions.
and yes Depp is starring in Sweeney and apparantly yes he sings well.
My vote goes to Sweeny Todd (Sondheim+Depp+Burton=Fabulous!). My second vote goes for AIDA, because I'm a sappy love story lover.
And I like the music.

That's the opposite of what I've heard. I've heard he's a bad singer.
YAY about the MS movie possibility. Fingers crossed!
I just had a thought... think The Last Five Years would make a good movie? It'd obviously have to be different in how it's set up, but that could be interesting...

The Last Five Years is far too theatrical.
I don't want movies made out of all these shows, I just want them to be preserved on film like the touring Sweeney, Into the Woods and the London Oklahoma! Is that so hard? Has the release of these videos detrimented the shows? No. And there's demand. Damnit.
I think THE SECRET GARDEN would make a great animated film in the classic Disney tradition.
