Gavroche, a new musical adaptation of Victor Hugo's Les Misérables, will receive an industry presentation October 20. Reimagined from the perspective of the youth involved in the 1832 June Rebellion, the production centers on the street urchin, Gavroche, and his teenage sisters Éponine and Azelma.
While both Gavroche and Éponine feature prominently in Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil's musical adaptation of Hugo's novel, Azelma is frequently excised from the narrative in adaptations due to her tertiary involvement with Jean Valjean.
The invite-only Equity presentation will be directed by Catie Davis, and include music direction by Adam Laird. Gavroche features a book, music, and lyrics by Bonnie Gleicher, who performed as a child in Broadway productions of Jane Eyre and Annie. The presentation will be produced by Mitchell Leib.
“The story of Gavroche has such meaningful parallels to our world today,” shared Leib, a former president of Disney Music & Soundtracks. “I’m proud to be a part of the next step in its evolution.”
Gavroche will star Kate Bailey (Beetlejuice), Gerald Caesar (Tina), Dwayne Harrison Clark, Natalie Charle Ellis (Beetlejuice), Donnie Hammond (Titanique), Kaylin Hedges (Annie), Devin Lewis (Newsies), Benjamin Pajak (The Music Man), Salena Qureshi (Superhero), Lance Roberts (The Music Man), Jake Swain (Mean Girls), Jayden Theophile (The Lion King), Clyde Voce (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), and Lee Zarrett (Jane Eyre, My Fair Lady).
Following a 2020 premiere at StarStruck, a theatre company known for their development of MTI JR and School Editions, Gavroche was presented in performing arts programs across the country.

The two songs on the composer's website don't give me hope that this will be good.
Adams last name is unusually close to Caird. Could Laird be a stage name? Is he related to John Caird in any way?

Anyone go to this today? I went to college and was friendly with Lee Zarrett and have enjoyed watching his career from afar over the years. Was wondering if he got to play ValJean or Javert or another major role here.
