Washington Post Layoffs - Dying Arts Coverage Feb 5 2026, 12:56:25 PM

But it always struck me as odd that the Post hired a critic who lives in New York and writes primarily about Broadway theater, given that DC has such a vibrant resident theater scene of its own. Looking at Kumar's bylines in the three months leading up to his layoff, I see only two DC reviews: GUYS AND DOLLS at Shakespeare Theatre and IN CLAY at Signature (Virginia). Meanwhile, nearly every B

Who pays for the touring shows that lost bookings? Feb 2 2026, 03:56:15 PM
merle57 said: "Who will reimburse those touring companies for the lost bookings? Does this break the contract with whoever runs the subscription series?"
I assume the contracts already include language around cancellations resulting from the venue's inability to host and what the compensation must be. Now of course this isn't any ordinary venue, and Trump has a history of not paying debts, but the contracts should cover this situation.

I'm so glad they abandoned the original concept for the Fun Home Tony performance. At the invited dress that morning they attempted to recreate the in the round experience of Circle in the Square by using the giant LED wall to mirror the audience instead of just having Sydney Lucas turn around and put her back to the audience. I get what they were going for, but it just didn't work during the dre

Hamilton and Slavery - Unrevivable? Jan 16 2026, 03:52:26 PM

Yes, but has "the show", or any of its creative/legal representatives, really "positioned itself in the zeitgeist" in that way? Or did that reputation come from other sources?
I don't feel any sense of alarm re: the number of people (students, or otherwise) who acknowledge the large number of historical accuracies contained in "Hamilton". There are many."

Hamilton and Slavery - Unrevivable? Jan 16 2026, 09:50:54 AM
It's not on theater to be historically accurate. It's on schools to teach facts and not pretend like Hamilton is an educational text. I think that's the bigger problem with how Hamilton has positioned itself in the zeitgeist. The number of students who legitimately think that the show is historically accurate is alarming.

Regional Awards Concern Jan 14 2026, 11:06:44 AM

I support and respect the decision to remove gender identifiers from performance catagories to be all-inclusive, however, in doing so only half of the amount of artists are being recognized. As two catagories were combined into one, why not award the top two winners? In my region all performance awards went to cis-female performers."
Do you have the same concerns with the fact

To mock someone because of a physical trait they have no control over is absolutely disgusting. There's plenty of reasons and ways to mock Trump. This shouldn't be one of them.

Now. Is it extremely arrogant to think you can get away with something like this? Yea. He's the worst pers

THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES To Close January 4, 2026 Nov 25 2025, 11:57:17 AM
I will celebrate bad shows closing the same way I celebrate bad politicians losing their campaigns. Yes, people are out of work, but now we can have something better and other people will get jobs they didn't have before.

Jennifer Lopez to Star in KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN Film Nov 14 2025, 12:24:00 PM
John Adams said: "joevitus said: "It's already available on Prime Video."
Yes, for PVOD. "Currently, AppleTV and Amazon offer the options of PVOD rental (~$15) or purchase (~$20)."
But the film will not become "free" to view (as part of having an Amazon, or another platform's subscription) until later. "The timing will depend on the film's digital performance and how awards season shakes out."
To be honest, I'm not 100% sure I'm using the correct terminology when I write, "PVOD". The terminology has changed to be defined more specifically from when everything first fell under the single umbrella of "VOD". The terms are better explained HERE.
What I'm waiting for(and what fits my budget) is what Ithinkis called an "SVOD" release. "
There's also AVOD (or sometimes ASVOD) which is Ad Supported VOD via platforms like Tubi or PlutoTV which don't require a subscription. Basic breakdown is: PVOD = Premium VOD = $19.99 rental VOT = Video On Demand = $4.99 rental SVOD = Subscription VOD = included with paid subscription to service AVOD = Ad Supported VOD = included with free service

Disney Broadway Concerts at Epcot - Anyone Gone? Nov 7 2025, 09:59:17 AM
macbeth said: "https://disneyparksblog.com/wdw/epcot-broadway-series-performers-announced-for-2026-festival-of-the-arts/
Worth it? Do they vary at all from show to show?"
The shows don't vary for the individual performers, but each set of performers will have their own set. Typically it's 3ish duets and they'll each do 2 solo numbers. The whole concert is usually around 30 minutes from my experience. It's fun, and I go, but I'm also a passholder so it's just something nice to do. I wouldn't book a trip or a park ticket just for the concert.

10 Best Musicals of the 21st Century Sep 26 2025, 02:05:02 PM
Lot of overlap for me, but this would be mine: - The Full Monty (yes it opened in the last couple months of the 20th Century, but it was eligible for the Tony in the 21st)
- The Producers
- Hairspray
- Caroline, or Change
- The Light in the Piazza
- Next to Normal
- Fun Home
- Hamilton
- Come From Away
- The Band's Visit
Agreed that Caroline, Or Change would be the pinnacle

There is a point where the work, reaction to it (and eventually awards) all speak for themselves. So I feel I don’t need to anymore. For Evita, audiences
