Hana Sharif out as Artistic Director at Arena Stage

It’s his assertions that;- it’s at all acceptable to force staff to work until 4am and they should consider it generosity that the leader requiring that is there with them- it’s at all acceptable to have any employee leave a meeting in tears, and to place the blame for that on the crying employeeTo me none of ...

Wicked's Dropping Grosses

BrodyFosse123 said: "They would have been stunt casting for over a decade if people were actually interested. Both roles are demanding and the 8 performances a week schedule has been brought up by many who haven’t returned to Broadway or made their Broadway debuts yet. Madame Morrible is the princess track that they’ve been able to stunt cast without any issues. When the show first opened, it was THE show you wanted to be part of, hence the roster of performers who did the show on tour or in ...

Hana Sharif out as Artistic Director at Arena Stage

Kad said: ""White acknowledged that he saw people leave meetings with Sharif in tears, but does not think it was right to blame her. “It’s not about her behavior; it’s about their ability to receive,” he told DCTA."This is a wild statement. White does a remarkably terrible job of defending Sharif throughout this."Based on all of White’s comments in this defending Sharif’s behavior I’m terrified for the future of Wooly Mammoth!

The list might end there.)I don’t know if the message boards are why Sally’s dress changed. I wouldn’t be surprised if a number of the tweaks that took place before opening on Broadway we...

Washington Post Layoffs - Dying Arts Coverage

Feb 5, 2026 — 12:56:25 PM

AC126748 said: "I'm not saying Kumar deserved to be fired. The layoffs are terrible. But it always struck me as odd that the Post hired a critic who lives in New York and writes primarily about Broadway theater, given that DC has such a vibrant resident theater scene of its own. Looking at Kumar's bylines in the three months leading up to his layoff, I see only two DC reviews: GUYS AND DOLLS at Shakespeare Theatre and IN CLAY at Signature (Virginia). Meanwhile, nearly every Broadway opening i...

Who pays for the touring shows that lost bookings?

Feb 2, 2026 — 3:56:15 PM

merle57 said: "Who will reimburse those touring companies for the lost bookings? Does this break the contract with whoever runs the subscription series?"I assume the contracts already include language around cancellations resulting from the venue's inability to host and what the compensation must be. Now of course this isn't any ordinary venue, and Trump has a history of not paying debts, but the contracts should cover this situation.

Great Tony Awards Performances

Melissa25 said: "Ring of Keys from Fun Home."I'm so glad they abandoned the original concept for the Fun Home Tony performance. At the invited dress that morning they attempted to recreate the in the round experience of Circle in the Square by using the giant LED wall to mirror the audience instead of just having Sydney Lucas turn around and put her back to the audience. I get what they were going for, but it just didn't work during the dress rehearsal

Hamilton and Slavery - Unrevivable?

Jan 16, 2026 — 3:52:26 PM

John Adams said: Yes, but has "the show", or any of its creative/legal representatives, really "positioned itself in the zeitgeist" in that way? Or did that reputation come from other sources?I don't feel any sense of alarm re: the number of people (students, or otherwise) who acknowledge the large number of historical accuracies contained in "Hamilton". There are many."I mean the student matinees and the whole EduHam initiative are directly marketing the show to a scholastic setting. I haven...

Hamilton and Slavery - Unrevivable?

Jan 16, 2026 — 9:50:54 AM

It's not on theater to be historically accurate. It's on schools to teach facts and not pretend like Hamilton is an educational text. I think that's the bigger problem with how Hamilton has positioned itself in the zeitgeist. The number of students who legitimately think that the show is historically accurate is alarming.

Regional Awards Concern

Jan 14, 2026 — 11:06:44 AM

whatacharacter said: "I don't know if concern is too strong a word... I support and respect the decision to remove gender identifiers from performance catagories to be all-inclusive, however, in doing so only half of the amount of artists are being recognized. As two catagories were combined into one, why not award the top two winners? In my region all performance awards went to cis-female performers."Do you have the same concerns with the fact that other categories don't break things out by ...

“Roundabout Warns Studio 54 Could Close”

I fail to see how it is a bad thing. They rent out their spaces as a source of income. Direly needed income. Roundabout would love to continually support their own productions in both Studio 54 and Todd Haimes theaters, but fundraising at this level to produce this mu...

NYT: Jeremy O. Harris Is Arrested in Japan on Suspicion of Smuggling Drugs

Is it extremely arrogant to think you can get away with something like this? Yea. He's the worst person. But the "crime" here isn't really a huge moral fail...

THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES To Close January 4, 2026

Nov 25, 2025 — 11:57:17 AM

I will celebrate bad shows closing the same way I celebrate bad politicians losing their campaigns. Yes, people are out of work, but now we can have something better and other people will get jobs they didn't have before.

Disney Broadway Concerts at Epcot - Anyone Gone?

Typically it's 3ish duets and they'll each do 2 solo numbers. The whole concert is usually around 30 minutes from my experience. It's fun, and I go, but I'm also a passholder so it's just something nice to do. I wouldn't boo...
