Judging by your taste in past productions, I doubt this is something you would enjoy.

An opening night invitation to a new August Wilson play?
Well, duh...GO!

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

August Wilson is an amazing playwright - many (including myself) list him in the top 5 American playwrights.

Furthermore, 'Gem of the Ocean' has an amazing cast...so yes, it should be a good performance. I'm very much looking forward to when I can see the play.

Not sure what you'll think of it given your dedication to a certain musical that shall remain nameless, but I think "Gem of the Ocean" is one of the highlights of the season. This is Wilson's return to form after a few less than stellar efforts (King Hedley II, Seven Guitars) and easily the best work he's done since Lloyd Richards' retirement -- a rich, passionate, powerful (and often funny) piece of writing. As is unfortunately typical of Wilson's last several works, the second act isn't as tight as should be -- it meanders a bit here and there and would benefit from about 7 to 10 minutes of cutting and some refocusing -- but overall Wilson's writing is outstanding.

The cast is absolutely flawless top to bottom, from Rashad to Chisolm to Hamilton to the wonderfully explosive Ruben Santiago-Hudson -- one of the best ensembles on any stage anywhere at the moment. Also exceptional are Leon's direction and all of the design elements.

This is easily the best production I've seen ON Broadway so far this season and I'd highly recommend it.
