GLEE kicks butt in the ratings against SYTYCD and America's Top Model.

Looking at the Nielsens, "Glee" averaged a 3.5 rating/9 share in adults 18-49 and 7.50 million viewers overall with its official series premiere. It easily won its hour in demos despite facing three reality shows ("America's Got Talent," "Wipeout" and "Top Model") that also score well with young auds.

Best news came in adults 18-34 (3.7 rating/11 share) and women 18-34 (5.4/15), with the show rating notably higher in both categories than did the preview episode of "Glee" that aired behind "American Idol" in May.

Since the ratings were based on the "official premiere," I'd say this was great since it was an episode that was released in May and is available on-line. I'm more curious about the 2nd and 3rd shows episodes.

Actually, Anna_Elizabeth, the second episode is the one they're calling the "official premiere." For some reason they've decided to think of the actual first episode as a sneak preview, not the season premiere.

My daughter and I (she's 12) loved the pilot and were so excited for the new season. I had to turn it off during the "arrive too quickly" scene. Went back and watched it later, and it got even more "mature". Sadly, won't be letter my 12-year-old watch this.

Just a warning to parents: this isn't "High School Musical". TIVO and watch yourselves before you let your kids watch.

To quote Emma in the last episode:

"YAY Glee!"

And I think it's one of those shows that works on different levels for different demographics.
