GODSPELL Digital New Cast Recording Release Date?

I noticed that a Digital Copy of the new cast recording of GODSPELL will be released on 12/20/2011...may I ask what that means? Does it mean that you can only order it online? Because, GHOSTLIGHT shows how you can only order it for $14.99 (ships later), and AMAZON and other labels say that it won't be out till the end of January!

yes! it's BEAUTIFUL! and BEAUTIFULLY recorded :) SO glad they recorded the song Telly, Lindsay and Wallace sing after intermission.

Checked the Soundtrack chart about 20 minutes ago and it was at #18, I checked it just now and it is at #15... cool! Cannot wait to listen to it! I am very excited to hear all of the new things done to the score!

EDIT: Now it's at #14! Hope this cast recording does well in the sales department, has it been released at the theatre yet? Updated On: 12/20/11 at 01:58 AM

I keep getting a message that one song (Turn Back, Old Man) can't be downloaded right now.

I keep hitting "retry" but keep gettin the same message -- anyone have any thoughts on what to do...or what happens if I exit out of itunes on my phone...will is just wait in the cue? Has anyone gotten that message before?


UPDATE: I just kept hitting retry.....eventually it went through.

Lindsay Mendez, Telly and George Salazar should get together and sing some concerts. I love their voices do much.

This cast recording deserves a purchase.

I created a separate playlist for it in iTunes, and dragged all the songs into it but they are all out of order and I can't figure out how to fix it ((

Wasn't a fan of Hunter's voice in SPRING AWAKENING. Haven't seen GODSPELL yet, but his voice on the cast recording is great. Also, Lindsay Mendez and Anna Marie Perez de Tagle are have amazing voices!

Just bought the recording. There are some beautiful tracks on there. It's now at #2 on iTunes for soundtracks and #27 Overall.

the recording captures the energy and joy of the show perfectly and their voices actually sound just like they do during a live performance of a show, with the added bonus the music's sound is controled during "alas for you" and "learn your lessons well" so you can actually hear them singing :) I also like that they do not have some of the speaking parts on it so you can actually just hear the songs

(some recordings you cannot hear the emotion behind the song they are singing which always boters me, and some have a weird sound quality that I can't explin but it bothers me when I hear it even if everything else about it is great)

I'll say this much- it's a fairly inoffensive Godspell album. There are very few renditions I LOVE, but there are no performances I HATE, like most of the previous albums had at least one.

Still, I'll only be putting two or three tracks from this album into my "best of Godspell" playlist.

Godspell 2011 cast album- "The Brick Album," anyone? Can't be the Red album, since that's taken.

I'm sure everyone who reads the thread will be worried (or bored) to see that I'm the latest reply.

Well, I come not to bury the album, but to praise it. It accentuates the best feature of this production (i.e., the score), and while I don't care for the Godspell by way of Glee and High School Musical style of arrangement, I must say that the album manages to conceal the worst parts of the production, which for me are visual, conceptual, and acting-related.

It's not great. (And, to toot my own horn, for what would a Godspell revival post from me be without such an instance, our arrangements of "Bless the Lord" and "We Beseech Thee" were to die for.) But for what it is, it's good, and I'm pleased that a cast album is having such success in the download market. Maybe this will convince major labels to take a second look at cast albums as a viable commodity.

It's interesting to see all the names of the People of Godspell in the back of the booklet. I've never looked at all the names before.

I think the recording is worth it for Hunter Parrish's "Beautiful City" alone. Beautiful indeed.

The rest sounds great though. They're all in great voice and the band sounds wonderful. You can finally hear all the intricate vocal arrangements clearly, something that's difficult to do while seeing the show. Wow, those new harmonies are not easy!
