Just announced on broadway.com that the revival of Godspell starring Gavin Creel will begin previews on Spetember 29, 2008 at the Ethel Barrymore theatre, with an official opening on October 23, 2008.
*Here's hoping that the next few years will bring in revivals of both "Working" and "Pippin."

Also, here's hoping to a healthy successful run for this amazing show.I was wondering though, if I was mistaken, but the Barrymore seems to be a hard theatre to fill, the last two tenants (Company, November) haven't exactly been sellouts, and I wonder if this show will do "okay" in this theatre. I've always felt this show comes across best in an intimate setting. I know many felt the circle in the square theatre would be ideal for this, however I thought Godspell may have fared well in the Helen Hays post Xanadu... any thoughts?
Im so excited to see what gavin brings to godspell. it should be interesting!
Whats the word on casting?
Julie Reiber is only contracted to stand by in the New York company of WICKED through September 21st.
Could this be because she's reprising her role in GODSPELL from the Papermill production for Broadway?

xanadu is doing VERY well post tonys, so the helen hayes may not be available:)
What role is Ethel Barrymore doing?

Regarding casting, does anybody know anything about Diana DeGarmo being cast in Godspell. This blog (linked below) states she will be in the show with Gavin Creel but I have no idea how credible the claim is:
Anyway, so it looks like we're in for the Broadway return of Diana DeGarmo, who I like and thought was a great Penny Pingleton. No, she's not going back to Hairspray. She's going to Hairspray producer Adam Epstein's other show, Godspell. So, that makes like her, Gavin Creel, Telly Leung, and, oh wait, I stopped caring already. That was quick.
I'm sorry, but I do not like WORKING. Although, I do like the housewife song and the mill worker song. Besides that...I thought the show was pretty dumb.
But back to the main topic...I'm uber excited for this revival as I love the show.
Celisse Henderson (of the recent JERRY SPRINGER: THE OPERA concert at Carnegie Hall and the WICKED tour) was credited with having been cast in the GODSPELL revival in a recent press release about a workshop she was doing.

"What role is Ethel Barrymore doing?"
The chainlink fence.
I know that Uzo Aduba will be in the GODSPELL cast. She was in the production of DESSA ROSE here in Boston and had it credited in her bio that she will be in this production. Her voice is AMAZING, and I can't wait to see how she'll be used.
Morgan James who was in PIRATES! at Paper Mill is going to be a swing. I saw her sing at Monday Nights, New Voices back in May and she was amazing.

Dana Steingold from the Spelling Bee tour is in it! I LOVE HER and will make a trip to NYC for sure. I saw her in Tampa last year and I went again when the tour came back through FL a few months ago. I met her and AKB and asked what they were doing next and AKB said "well, Dana knows what she's doing" and told us it was GODSPELL. She seemed embarrassed and said she really couldn't believe it still and was so excited. And a friend recently saw her in a concert and her bio stated it, so I guess it is definite. All the best to her. She is ridiculously talented, always so kind and probably the cutest person!!! I hope AKB makes a blog announcement!
I'm assuming this is a limited run?
I think the run is open-ended
A limited run of a commercial production of a musical?
No.

With previews set to begin in September, shouldn't they be doing a press release soon with all the cast members? I'm excited about the show and the entire cast and am hoping the rumor about Diana D., is true.

Nothing official as yet. I think an announcement will be coming soon, though.
Diana DiGarmo seems to be putting a lot of shows on her resume. Good for her. She is a great singer.
