Just snagged an orchestra seat for tonight at the TKTS booth for $50.
Who knew?
...and people were obsessively worrying about not being able to get tickets for this.
Well considering there were people outside of City Center holding paper plates with "PLEASE! I NEED A TICKET!" for FOLLIES. I think some people here were worried for GYPSY.

I'm surprised the whole run didn't sell out, but if it were a real Encores! type run (6 or so performances) the tickets would have been gone in a flash.
Was in the front row of the balcony (or Gallery, whatever they call it there) tonight, and would say it was about 80% empty, and saw bunches of empty seats in Mezzanine. Orchestra looked full though.

I had a great seat upstairs for $25, and there are more.
Just go!
The audience was cheering after so many of the songs!
The orchestra was packed... I don't think there were any empty seats downstairs.
Yeah, FOLLIES was initially scheduled for the normal Thurs-Sunday run. I doubt it would have sold out if it had announced a run as long as GYPSY's. Even with their one-day extension and with so many people wanting tickets, I was able to get an orchestra seat for the Sat. matinee about two hours before curtain.
FOLLIES and GYPSY don't have any chandeliers falling on the audience or green divas lifted as Act I ends so I doubt they'll ever sell-out during long runs.

I just got back from the show. It is absolutely astonishing!
I was sitting in the front mezz but there were quite a few seats empty in the upper mezz.
See this show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
would i have any luck in getting tickets at tkts this saturday for the matinee performance?
When the reviews come out, it's gonna be another Follies.
Hello all! I've been reading the boards and getting very excited about our up coming trip to NYC! We had sealed the deal for NYC when we heard about Patti in Gypsy, and promptly got tickets. Only thing is i accidently ordered for the night before, and then ordered again for the next evening. I told my dh that we could sell them on ebay, but the tickets that have been up so far, no where near face value. Now, I'm all for a great deal at TKTS, and in fact that's where we'll get all our other tickets, but I'm hopeful that after the reviews come out, I'll be able to recoup, (I feel I will as these are center front row of Grand Teir). I'm so very excited! I haven't seen Patti since Evita in LA, oh so many years ago....
I saw it tonight. Wait until the reviews come out. It won't be on TKTS for long. Snag 'em while you can.
TKTS doesn't sell evening tickets until 2pm, correct?
Maybe I'll cruise by on my lunch break.
They take credit, right?
Impossible to compare GYPSY with Encores! FOLLIES. FOLLIES was only a few nights whereas GYPSY is playing for several weeks.
If GYPSY was only playing a few nights (like FOLLIES), there wouldn't be any tickets to be found and every performance would be full-out SRO.
^ Obviously. But don't you think people were still worried after seeing what happened with FOLLIES?
Plus the day GYPSY tickets went on sale was madness. The phone lines were busy - the site was down. So people obviously had reason to worry they might not get tickets.
BUT I do think after the reviews come out it will be harder to get tickets.
i can't freaking wait!!!!! I haven't been this excited for a show since i had 5th row center for The Lion King!
Wow. This is good to know. I may have to march right down to the TKTS booth sometime this week
Cheers!
Trust me, Brian! This will tippy tippy top your LION KING experience, hands down! Prepare yourself.
Hmmm... I'd had my weekend shows semi-planned, but this may change things... Especially if it's on the boards on Friday.
I am going to NYC for my birthday weekend on the 20th and I think I will try to get tickets for Gypsy(I thought it would be hard to get tickets) do you think it will be on tkts or should i just get the tickets in advance
