"That's cause the price of Patti spittle just went up!"
Haha, I was just thinking that it was only that aisle that she walks down.

Looks like $135 a piece but they can only be bought in pairs. That's kinda weird. Where did you get that info. from?

Posted: 6/18/08 at 7:51pmYes, they do indeed do this at the Met, so it's not unheard of. I should know, I work subscriptions there.

Posted: 6/18/08 at 8:02pmSome people like getting aisle seats because they might have a physical condition, which makes the aisle seat much more comfortable. I've actually seen people write on their order forms that they want an aisle seat so they can get out of the theater quicker at the end of the performance. So there are a handful of reasons, but I would guess most are comfort related.

Yes, but only one of those aisles.
And Telecharge is overcharging for ALL of them.

Posted: 6/18/08 at 8:12pmEven the outside aisles? At the St. James, the outside aisle seats, at least on house right, are almost partial view!!

Posted: 6/18/08 at 8:16pmAs H Higgins said, it's not just the center orchestra aisle seats or the close aisle seats or the ones on the aisle Patti comes down -- apparently, it's all of them, at least as far as I could tell from a quick check. It's also weird because, if you think about it, only 1 of the pair is actually an aisle seat, so you are essentially paying a $18 x 2 = $36 premium on a $117 ticket in order to get an aisle seat like S1. That's a 30% premium over the $117 price.

Posted: 6/18/08 at 8:17pmThe box office guy (yesterday) said that all center orchestra seats in the first 10 rows after the front row (because those are rush) are now premium.

Posted: 6/18/08 at 8:31pmWOW! I just saw it today, Wed matinee, and I purchased my ticket through broadwaybox.com with the discount during the end of the Tony Awards. Several of the people seated around me also got them the same way, the discount is good thru the beginning of next month. I got row D (AISLE SEAT)...A SINGLE, FOR $75...PLUS THE USUAL 10.00 IN FEES. Great deal and it's not too late....I can't believe I got the aisle seat as she whisked right past me hollering "SING OUT LOUISE"! What a theatrical event! loved South Pacific, but this is the first time GYPSY has ever ripped my heart out and made me cry.

It really makes sense for theaters to price their seats in a more graduated manner, and it's coming more and more.
From premium seats to the new aisle seats to partial view to increased differentiation in between...
If it weren't for the fact that it's more complicated and put-offing to have 20 price levels, it really makes the most business sense to do it. 6th row orchestra center should not cost the same as the last full price row of the mezz on the side. Right now planning ahead and time cause the difference in quality. In turn, that price difference is often realized in cash on sites like StubHub. Why not cut out the middle man?

You almost have to wish that your favorite show does not win a Tony. If it does, you can be assured the price will go up immediately. I wonder where the madness will end. The utter stupidity of raising prices & in a recession yet boggles the mind.
We saw the last Gypsy & wanted to see Patti in this one but this now scratches another show off our list.
So much for building an audience for the future . At this rate, you will lose the audience you have now.
Convenience fees will be next. While we are at it, why not charge for Playbills. Another untapped source of income - Pay toilets. The possibilities are endless.
