I thought the "gay presence" was beautiful. Love is love. If two men or two women feel true love and happiness with each other, who are we to judge? Everyone deserves to have a true love.

Cathy said, "i'm not saying people should lie or try to hide things. i just think the actors should maybe be a little more discrete before deciding to be so bold."

Sorry Cathy but you are saying we should hide. No one was being bold, they gave proper credit to their supportive partners. And no one was overtly making out, just friendly kisses.

I'm sorry but I find a few things on this post homophobic.

To be blunt-If you don't like gays, stop liking musical theatre, because the two go hand in hand.

Oh well, some gay people kissed on tv. I think most people are pretty much over it. I haven't seen much talk about it yet like there was about the kissing on previous shows in recent years. There's been same sex kissing on a number of shows like The O.C., Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill, etc. It's just not that big of a deal anymore, thankfully.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

Man this board AMAZES me! So Edward Albee is getting a lifetime achievement award and he's not supposed to mention how much he wishes the man he's spent more than half of his lifetime with was there to share it, but he died a month ago? Cherry Jones, thrilled to have won a Tony for a show she loves, kisses her partner who's been sitting next to her waiting and hoping she's win-- and somehow that is political?

See kids, people are gay every day. You don't get to say "I'm not going to be gay at the Tony awards tonight, I don't want to be political." The idea that people should not thank the folks they love, shuld not express that love because some might be offended is REPULSIVE to me.

I'm shocked, stunned, horrified that people are still so backward.

You know I thought it was great. I come from a small town in Northern MN and I know a lot of people from here would have gotten really uncomfortable. I know my brother was sort of weirded out when I told him all the dancers in La Cage were Men. But I think it's great that people aren't afraid to show who they are anymore. This coming from a girl in Hick/red neck country USA.

Kissing your same sex partner after you win a prestigious award is not political. Bending your same sex partner over the seat in front of you and dry humping them on national TV to get a rise out of the idiots in the red states, that is political. Didn't see anthing political in last night's show.

Munk is right. The more homosexuals behave like what we are is normal, the more it will become part of daily life. Not very long ago, seeing an interracial couple walking hand in hand was cause for calling the police.

Cathy, saying that gays should curtail there behavior in public is homophobic...even if the person saying it is gay.

Bobby I'm with you! If you can't take the flamers, stay out of the theatre!

Anyone who doesn't want to accept Gays should not be allowed to listen to songs by Stephen Sondheim. It's sort of how racists shouldn't be allowed to listen to Al Green. You folks go enjoy Nascar or something.

I also guarantee that those who were offended by the show of love last night would rather have seen the winners take out an axe and cut off a limb instead. Violence is so much better tolerated than showing love and affection, especially between same sex partners.

I think that people will always view everything we do as a "political statement".

Love is love, and I say Bravo for it. Sadly, there's enough hate in the world.

There was nothing "political" in last nite's show, and anyone who saw it that way should check themselves to see how they really feel about homosexuality.

Joe is right...double standards dont work anymore and noone should have to hold back their feelings and natural behaviors to please others or keep them from feeling uncomfortable. It aint a switch you turn on and off...I am amazed that some people think that at such an important moment as winning a Tony I am supposed to think, "what will those homophobic people think if I kiss my lover?"

I dont think that anyone stopped watching the Tony awards because of same sex kissing...probably some of the performances made a few change the channel, tho!

I think it's really sad how when two people convey love for each other - or one person for his love who HAPPENS to be homosexual - it's considered political. The fact that people DO NOT want to see it is what stirs me up.

Hopefully tehre will be a day when love = love, no exceptions.

In our current climate displays of homosexual public affection are, unfortunately, political. You may wish to blind yourself to this fact, but it doesn't change it. Whether you are holding hands while walking in some small Southern town (my experience)or smacking Cherry Jones on the lips on national television, it is a political statement.

I'm a little bit opposed to having homophobes post homophic statements on a theatre site.
