I would love to see Vera in MAME played by a man.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

"I would love to see Dolly Levi played by a man in drag."

It has been done. In the West End several years ago.

I'd love to see DAME EDNA (Barry Humprhies) take on Mary Poppins
Dolly Levi. That would be a scream!

Also, I think they should give men the chance to play Kate Monster/Lucy the Slut in Avenue Q. Think about it. Muppeteers always played the women parts until Eren Ozker came along in 1976. She was the first and only woman puppeteer for a long time! Frank Oz played Ms. Piggy, Richard Hunt played Janice, John Tartaglia played Phoebe on Sesame Street, and countless others. I dunno...maybe it's just me. lol

If they ever revive Pippin, I'd love to see Harvey Fierstein play the grandmother. Non-musically, I'd like to see an all drag Steel Magnolias.

Edit: Little_Sally, I saw a female Tobias in a high school production of Sweeney Todd, and it worked quite well actually.

I killed the boss, you don't think they're gonna fire me over a thing like that!!!!

I'd love to see a gender-switched Last Five Years.

Am I the only one who doesn't think this would be that great of an idea?

I've always thought a female Tobias would be cool; I also thought seeing Velma Von Tussle or Mrs. Piggleton (sp?) played in drag could be fun too.

Not a musical, but I've always wanted to direct an all-male version of Steel Magnolias.

I can't talk now. I gotta go get my wallet out of the toaster.

Turn Edna Turnbald into Edmond Turnblad, and he MUST be played by a woman.

Patrick Dennis's (aka Everett Tanner III) Mame was a veiled disguise of who he wanted to be. So, thus, the role has always been a drag performance. Time to turn it back into Uncle Mame. Harve Firestein, please.

No. It's apparently not allowed by JRB and/or whomever licenses the show.

Billy Porter talks about auditionining as the Witch for the recent revival of Into the Woods and sings "The Last Midnight" on his live album recorded at Joe's Pub.

Charles Busch was Bertha in a concert version of Pippin not too long ago. Although I agree, Harvey would be very fun in that roll too.

I second Mrs. Meers in Millie. She's in heavy makeup the whole time and the singing could easily be done.

Bea Arthur for Mrs. Meers in Millie!....oh...wait...she's a woman isn't she?

Haha. I love Bea, but no one can resist making the man jokes about her. lol.

I would like to see Rosie O'Donnell as The Leading Player in Pippin.

She DID play The Cat in the Hat in Seussical and so did Cathy Rigby. So there are two gender-bending roles right there.
