Hello all,

Some friends are coming to city in January. They are trying to decide between seeing Gent's Guide or On the Town. I've never seen either, but I could make a case for seeing both. They only have time in their trip to see one. What is your pick?

The upside is you're seeing a good show either way, but they seem to be pretty different shows as far as energy/experience, so not sure how it would be hard to land on one or the other.

GENTLEMEN'S GUIDE is at its best adorable and clever. Some of it is very pretty. The performance leaves you in a cheerfully good mood.

ON THE TOWN is a ravishing masterpiece, performed by an amazing cast of actors and musicians in peak form. It is pure musical theater at its most sublime. The performance leaves you in tears.

GG will no doubt tour the provinces. But if you and your friends miss this production of ON THE TOWN, you'll regret it for the rest of your theatergoing lives.

I saw Gentleman's Guide last Wed and On The Town last Friday. There is no question in my mind. Go see On The Town. It was fantastic! Upbeat, cheerful, fun and a genuine Broadway experience. There were some very good performers in Gentleman's Guide, but the songs were all quite boring and unmemorable. On The Town is a much better choice.

Gentleman's Guide was fairly boring, but I have heard both good and bad reviews for it. On the Town, however, has gotten fairly good reviews. I haven't seen it though.

Gentleman's Guide is a Tony Winning show and quite the HOOT. I loved it.

My recommendation is Gentleman's Guide. Not sure why posters on this thread thought is was boring. I thought is was anything but. And, I like supporting NEW and original broadway shows. Just my two cents.

Gentleman's Guide just doesn't appear to be everyone's personal cup of tea. As of now, I think On the Town could really use more support from you!

"As of now, I think On the Town could really use more support from you!"

Why would anyone base their personal decisions on which show needs the money more?!

Gentlemens Guide is brilliant, and the people having the most fun in the theater seemed to be 40+. The children beside me didn't seem to get it. The actors are all so great, the score is so fun, and it's just a hilariously wonderful show. Your guests will love it Gent's Guide or On the Town

On The Town was amazing as well. That orchestra is not to be missed because GODDAMN it sounds good!

Both shows are very well done.

I did enjoy Gentlemen's Guide, but it's the sort of show I have admiration for, rather than love. It definitely has a dark streak, for those who like that. Not a dance show.

On the Town, on the other hand, really thrilled me. I sat there the whole time with a smile on my face. Wonderful singing, dancing, staging, etc. Some melancholy, but overall very upbeat.

I've seen (and enjoyed) both, but there is no question in my mind. Go see On the Town.

If they're under 70, go with On the Town.

Both are totally different styles of Broadway musicals yet very entertaining as Gentleman's...won the tony for best musical but not for everyone so I would advise On The Town.

As it should have, wonderfully entertaining and you can be any age to enjoy it. Jefferson Mays is incredible.

Maybe you should have your friends listen to a few songs from each show and maybe watch little clips from each show. It might give them a better idea as to what they really want to see....... Something a bit on the dark side and is basically done with one set (there are some small changes) or something that is a light hearted spectacle with a big stage and has big set changes through out the show. They are very very different types of musicals.

I love how horrible you make Gentleman's Guide sound. The sets are WONDERFUL and it's dark humor, not "dark".
