Ok?
I find all these threads of people fighting over who's winning the Tony, ridiculous, since no one knows what it's gonna happen unless they have a crystal ball or something, but just wanted to post that for w/e reason.

Laura Bell Bundy is reading this over my shoulder, and her shoulders are heaving with sobs.
Have some sensitivity!

Posted: 6/3/07 at 1:29pmThis isn't about muscle trying to make fun of something or claiming he has a sense of humor. This is muscle making sure we all know his opinion. And what better way to do that than start a new thread?

OK, here's the deal> Just because something or someone wins an award doesnt ipso facto mean it's the best Broadway had to offer that particular season. If Ebersole wins, huzzah and hurrah, but it doesnt automatically make her the next Sarah Bernhardt. It's just a statuette that comes with bragging rights and a little box office boost. 110 has been extended twice now and is, if I'm reading correctly, selling out, while Grey Gardens is struggling. Fine, so if Ebersole wins, the producers of Grey Gardens will have something they can use for a little short term PR to boost sales. But again, it doesnt immediately translate into "Ebersole is the MOST AMAZING PERSON EVER!!!"
They're both good. They both turn in great performances. Anything else is just dross.

I totally agree with Sean Martin
They were both great. Just because I want Audra to win does not mean Ebersole was not great as well.
Good luck to them both. Who knows, maybe there will be a tie

ticket sales don't merrit anything. Grease and Phantom of the Opera are two shows that sell very well on Broadway. can we say ew?
audiences want to see Paris Hilton in The Apple Tree.
not comparing Audra's performance in 110 In the Shade to that. i'm just saying...your argument about how many tickets a show is selling doesn't mean anything. personally, having seen both shows in discussion in this thread, i think Ebersole has it. though i wouldn't necessarily knock Audra out of the running.

Posted: 6/3/07 at 1:50pmWell, I HOPE she does too, but last year wasn't Patti LuPone a sure bet to win the Tony Award......

Paris Hilton in The Apple Tree.
If that ever happens, Armeggedon is around the corner

Totally agree with Seanmartin and Roxy !! They are BOTH great ! Both COULD win. Only ONE will.
There is just too many people that are acting like Ebersole has the award, and someone is going to break into her home and steal it.
I just love the belief that Ebersole has been the frontrunner for the longest time. Obviously!
"110" had not yet opened yet !
Once again, loved both shows and both performances. Will be happy with either winning.

Speaking of Audra in "110...", I did see her and I did LOVE her in it.
However, did anyone think that her committment to the accent of her character made her singing less pleasing because of the accent that she was sticking too??????

Paris Hilton......in "The Apple Tree"......in Jail!!!!!!
Now that's Entertainment!!!!!!
#17re: Get Over It. Christine Ebersole WILL Win The Tony.
Posted: 6/3/07 at 1:59pmNo, I thought her voice was in incredible shape and was happy to see her sticking with the accent throughout. Unlike every actor who has been in Jekyll and Hyde. And no, Lupone was not a sure bet. She was considered the most likely, but it was also a very controversial year. Many people wanted (though not as many epxected) LaChanze to win, a few (myself included) wanted Kelli O'Hara to win, and a couple of Drowsy Chaperone fans were expecting/hoping for Sutton Foster to pull an upset. Lupone was considered the most likely, though she wasn't a lock.

Posted: 6/3/07 at 2:08pmRight, but isn't that basically the same situation Christine Ebersole is in this year?????? Perhaps, a bit more likely that Patti LuPone was last year.
#19re: Get Over It. Christine Ebersole WILL Win The Tony.
Posted: 6/3/07 at 2:11pmWell, everyone wants different people to win. Hell, there are those who think that Laura Bell Bundy deserves it. I think that there's a much clearer picture that Ebersole will win. But any person whose predicting Ebersole (myself included) has a thought in the back of their head going "Audra might take it!" It's really down to those two women, with Ebersole having the advantage.

"Well, I HOPE she does too, but last year wasn't Patti LuPone a sure bet to win the Tony Award......"
I don't think Patti was a sure thing to win, at least not in my opinion. The competition came down to Patti and LaChanze.

God, I'm STILL not over LuPone not getting the Tony last year. Please....let's never discuss it again.

Posted: 6/3/07 at 2:31pmI can't wait for the Tonys to come and go so we don't have to speculate anymore. The next thing though, of course will be the countless outrage threads over who and what was robbed. Oh the fights to look forward to.

I think this place is waaaaay too invested in the Tonys. They're just an award - everyone who is nominated is beyond grateful to be working successfully in an extremely competitive field. That's what it's about. Awards are a lovely icing on the cake - not the be all and end all.
There are people who have won Tonys and never worked on Broadway again. Sure, it's a wonderful thing, but its not worth getting this crazy over when you're not even involved in any way other than as fans.
