Yes it is true. The soon to be formed "Dreamworks theatricals" is going to mount Gladiator: A musical based on the film using Hans Zimmer's film score as the music for the show. Any thoughts???
Very interesting. Could be good. Although, I know a ton of Broadway finatics will immediately dismiss the idea just because it's a another movie bound to be a musical.
hmm should be interesting...if true. I wonder how they would stage all the fights with all the gore...and animals. ehh sounds like something for the circus to me.

HAAAAATE this film. Why can't they just accept that it won Best Picture because there was no Lord of the Rings that year? It does not merit further adaptation.

Traffic won me over in the first screening. While I was extremely disappointed that Gladiator won Best Picture over Traffic, it was pretty sweet that Steven Soderbergh received two Best Director nominations in the same year (for Traffic and Erin Brokovich).
I think REQUIEM FOR A DREAM was the overall BEST movie that year, I was so annoyed that they weren't nominated for best picture, and I was beyond pissed off that Julia Roberts beat Ellen Burstyn for Best Actress - I was in shock.

What the hell? Requiem for a Dream was out that year too and Gladiator still trumped it completely... It's a classic case of the epic being guaranteed the win. Even Ebert (who has gotten increasingly easy to please over the years) only gave Gladiator a couple of stars.
I agree that Burstyn should have won over Julia Roberts. I blame ageism or the fact that Roberts portrayal of Brokovich was so overhyped -- including by the REAL Erin Brokovich.
It's just so sad - Ellen Burstyn in REQUIEM is some of the most solid, brilliant, moving acting work I have ever seen. That's why I went to see her on broadway last year, and we all know the rest of that story...

I agree that Ellen Burstyn should have won that year. She was phenomenal in Requiem. But, for Julia, if not for that role, then WHEN? And you know she HAD to get one, too many people adore her. I still say that Traffic was a better film than Requiem. I love them both. They are VERY different to say the least. Requiem has such a visceral, insider take on drug abuse. But Traffic was about showing the big picture. And, as in both Aranofsky films, the characters are so distraught, so tormented and sickening that I had a hard time feeling empathy as much as revulsion and sympathy. But I felt for Benicio and Michael Douglas. They felt real to me. Requiem felt like a symphony. It was pure emotion. It's art. So's Traffic. But Traffic told a more compelling story even while not eliciting as strong of an emotional response as Requiem. That's my thought anyway.
