Per Playbill:
"The new musical Glory Days, which opened and closed on Broadway on the same night, will not be eligible for nomination in any category."

Kate Fleetwood is a Leading Actress...that certainly changes that race a bit. She'll be nominated for sure, but I doubt she'll be able to beat one of the August women.
Also, as much as I love Boeing-Boeing, I find it amusing that the actress who gets the "star bow" at the end of the curtain call is competing in the Featured Actress category. Not that she'll be nominated, but I think Mary McCormack will. Also, from that show, Rylance will be in Leading Actor, where he'll surely be nominated and may upset Patrick Stewart.
As for Glory Days, I don't think there was anything they could do since the nominators were never invited to a performance.

Has this happened before? I mean, I know there have been shows that couldn't be nominated because the committee didn't have time to see it before closing... but have they ever ruled a show ineligible before?
Crazyness.

The opposite of creation isn't war, it's stagnation.

Yes but in the context of the show there's no way you could justify that character being considered a lead. (Then again lesser parts have been called leads before.) Still, that character is very much a supporting role.

Rylance won't win...and I guess their reasoning is that the nominating committee didn't get to see it.
I'm assuming...

And as far as the Baranski being nominated for Featured Actress goes, I totally agree with that.
She gets the final bow because she is Christine Baranski not because of the size of her role. Also, I think she gets it because it's easier for her to come out alone. It makes sense for the three women to go, then the two men, then Baranski. Also, I think giving her the final bow is also for sheer entertainment value with the fog and smoke and everything...I don't think it has much to do with the size of her role.

Completely forgot, but I'm sorry that A Bronx Tale won't be taking home the Special Event Tony. It would surely have been nominated if Thurgood and The 39 Steps chose to go into that category, but alas it'll be lost amongst the plays

The nominators were indeed invited to Glory Days. Voters too.

Awww, not even Duran Duran for special event? Although I guess they only had a couple performances on Broadway because of the strike anyway.

Here's the link to the Tony rules for the 2007-08 season. I'm guessing they couldn't meet paragraph 2(a)(vi), which requires the producers to provide at least 8 performances (or half of all paid performances) for Tony voters to see the show.

Edit: I realize others have more or less suggested this, but I wanted to provide the link. The rules are kind of interesting.

Well...sucks for GLORY DAYS.
What's the reasoning for considering it ineligible? One thing is snubbing it altogether and another thing is not giving it a chance whatsoever. How sad.
Well, I doubt James Earl Jones would have gotten a nomination whether it was featured or leading, but I think it's kind of odd to put him in the leading category. Either way, he has a much bigger chance of getting the nod over Terrence Howard though I doubt either one will be nominated.
The Kate Fleetwood ruling WILL shake up the leading actress category, and I hope it doesn't mean that Anika Noni Rose can kiss her nod bye-bye
It might be: Eve Best, Deanna Dunagan, Kate Fleetwood, Amy Morton, and Anika Noni Rose. But it's too hard to tell.
