SO I was reading on Broadway.com that Glory Days, a show that just finished its run off broadway is coming to Circle in the Square and has a chance in the tony race? I am just curios since I have literally heard nothing about it. Has anyone seen and it and is it good? What is about? Very curious.

I'm just sad that Next to Normal isn't filling that space. Sigh.

EDIT Playbill says it opened in VA, not off broadway.

Just read this a few minutes ago, too.

It's NOT "a show that just finished its run off broadway." It's a production from the AMAZING Signature Theatre, a regional theatre in Arlington, VA, South of Washington DC. Eric Schaeffer is the Artistic Director of Signature and, in addition to all of his work there, has helmed productions like the Original London production of "Witches of Eastwick", the Sondheim Festival at the Kennedy Center, and Christine Baranski's "Mame" at the Kennedy Center.

And the best thing: It's only 85 minutes long!

I'm excited for this show, but the author loses a lot of credibility if he hails a show for its brevity. Not that a long show makes a good show, but that he finds length (or lack thereof) to be a quality in and of itself.

At a running tme of only an hour and 25 minutes, this show BEST have discounted seats available. There's NO WAY I'm paying $110 a ticket. Not for 85 minutes, I don't care HOW good the show is. Here's to 'the most random new piece to come along this season' - GLORY DAYS!

I found this review from The Washington Post. Sounds like it could be great! Peter Marks rarely writes reviews that are this glowing...

This is one of those shows that "I can't see on Broadway," but we'll see.

So a show doesn't belong on Broadway if it's five minutes shorter than A Catered Affair and fifteen less than Drowsy Chaperone?

Sounds like it could be a sleeper hit. I thought NERDS would make it, oh well.

BustopherPhantom - I'm not sure if that comment was directed towards me, but I was referencing the physical size of the production. Just a thought.

Folks, we need to learn to actually read posts before responding to them. It's getting a little silly.

He's saying that the author loses credibility if he HAILS a show for its brevity. He is not saying that a show that is short cannot be good. You snapped at him for something he didn't say.

So much contention happens on these boards because people don't read what has been written.

Are you referring to the author of the article's hailing of the show's brevity?

jrb

Yeah.
TonyVincent wrote that the fact that the director was hailing the show because it is short seemed a little lame. After all, a show's worth shouldn't be based on its length in any way, shape, or form.
BustopherPhantom was unclear on TonyVincent's meaning and thought that he was saying that short shows don't belong on broadway. He just didn't read TonyVincent's comment correctly, that's all.

Ah yes. I agree completely.
It's a blog..what can you really expect?
It hasn't even been officially announced yet..

I will say...telling a complete story in 85-90 mins is something special, and should certainly leave the audience wanting more. Some of the best shows do that. Most shows should actually do the same. :)
