He was sidetracked with the 1986 Broadway revival of SWEET CHARITY and his final show BIG DEAL. One wonders what that would have been like Fosse directing the film version instead of working on the poorly received "Big Deal" Something tells me Fosse would have had conflicts with HW.

And yes, Bob Fosse’s first attempt at adapting CHICAGO to the big screen was around 1978-79 but was sidetracked with DANCIN’ (in 1978) then his 1979 film ALL THAT JAZZ. For this incarnation he had Goldie as Roxie and Liza as Velma. Goldie and Liza had an instant adoration for each that Liza asked Fred Ebb to write/produce a TV Special so they both could get a chance to do something as it looked like CHICAGO was D.O.A. The legendary Ron Field choreographed this TV Special - GOLDIE & LIZA TOGETHER in 1980.
