they should just move good vibrations over to the plymouth and bring caroline or change back to the o'neill...

My final word is that, of course basic economic sense dictates that bad reviews and low advanced sales equals closing notice, BUT at present time no OFFICIAL word or notice has been given or posted.
By the way, does your chatty friend in the cast know how much you've bashed their show from day one, or are they just disgruntled that they don't look good in a bathing suit?
Kowabunga and Goodnight TommyB, believe or not I've enjoyed the debate...now go and practice your surfing skillz!

Ebonic_Singer,
I have leaked info here on the Boards in the past, or hinted at it. Some people who "start rumours" ARE telling truth - or what is truth at that time. And others start rumors for attention and totally makes up ****.
I know several tidbits about Wicked, Peter Pan, and the upcoming Dreamgirls movie that I won't share - but will when it comes closer to the press release date, possibly.
In any case - I DO think this person is telling the truth. Their closing doesn't surprise me in the least.

Razz,
Ironic isn't it? Caroline was pushed out this theatre prematurely for GV and then goes to LA and San Francisco and becomes both a critical (rave reviews) and box office hit out there in both cities (nearly selling out most weeks). GV, in the mean time, is facing a fairly ugly slate of reviews from the New York critics and will be lucky to have any kind of run at all (they only wish they could get the kind of numbers, unimpressive as they were some weeks, as Caroline got for most of its run).
Irony.

Why would you even if your friend IS in the show come here and do that? Are you 5? Do you get joy out of playing Good Vibrations Yenta? Yes, talk on this show is not good but at least let them open before you pull out the keggs and balloons for a closing.

I have a (good) job AND also sit around all day at work hypothesizing and surmising theater facts

I was so glad to hear that Caroline found an audience on the West Coast -- I really can't express what an incredible experience seeing this show live was, and I'm glad that audiences are beginning to really appreciate it for what its worth and giving the writers and cast the recognition they deserve.
While Caroline or Change was certainly risky and artsy, I think it was an incredibly moving and coherent piece of theatre. I'd hate to see it get thrown on the shelf with other short-lived "intellectual art-house shows"

Posted: 1/26/05 at 11:49pmYes my friend knows I trash the show and he is the reason I trash it. He thinks the show sucks. He hates what is going on, the fighting is getting out of hand. I can't tell you more because he does not want to be identified but he wants out and now his wish has been granted.

I went today and although the book and costumes need work, it is a very enjoyable show.
If they fix the problems it could be the next Mamma Mia.
It was better then Dracula and Bklyn and much better then Prymate.
I hope they fix the problems as the talent is there.
Just get rid of the boots and bathing suits.

Posted: 1/26/05 at 11:52pmI saw GV this afternoon and literally got chills stepping inside the Eugene O'Neill, since I had last been in there for Caroline (three times.) Caroline's early NY demise will be mourned for a long time.

With proper support from an intelligent group of critics, a work can be challenging and risky and artistic and nonderivative and original AND yet popular and be a box office success. Amazing. Then again, maybe that can only happen on the West Coast, these days.

You can't compare a show like Caroline to Good Vibrations.
It is like comparing Mamma Mia to Caroline. They are very different mediums.
Caroline is an intelligent show, thought provoking and moving.
Mamma Mia is just for entertainment purposes.
I prefer a show like Caroline to Mamma Mia but Mamma Mia will run for years.
Tourists love to be entertained.
Cats is the longest running show, that is all i have to say.

I saw the show over Christmas Break. IT WAS FUN. It was refreshing to see such a young and new cast that was full of talent. The book is not the best, especially towards the end. The scenery is great especially the beach scenery. If I had my money in the show, I would work on a better ending and take out some really cliche ideas. The biggest issue i had was that they use the song "good vibrations" and don't actually follow the lyrics. it states "gotta keep those loving good vibrations happenin with her." and yet there is this breakup type 5 year split. There is good song choice I think. Choreography is a plus with this show. The energy is really high and the intensity was definately there. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The show is not the next les mis, and i dont think it will hit broadway the way Mamma Mia did. I have to say that it was a good time, but to me it's not what i consider a winner. If you have nothing else to do check it out for an enjoyable trip down deach boys memory lane, or atleast go to hear Sail on Sailor(AMAZING).
Refering to Earlier: Chad Kimball also needs to give a raise to his agent for the T.V. commercial he has right now. HE hated doing good vibrations i could tell. He was the only one that seemed annoyed and never looked like he was having fun.

not to sound like a know it all or anything, because believe me I am far from it, but I was talking with my voice teacher the other day and one of his past students is in GV and was telling him that it is most likely not going to run past it's first month. But, that is only what I heard from my voice teacher, I just think there must be some truth in it if various people heard the same thing.
My voice teacher also saw a broadway preview or GV and said that it was tacky, and it's choreography was worse than a highschool production...but that is my voive teacher lol.
That said, I wish the best to the cast and crew of the show!

Posted: 1/27/05 at 12:09amOkey Dokey! There's a point in every bad musical where you (figuratively) throw up your hands and think 'this is never going to make any sense', and try to salvage your experience by enjoying the singing, costumes, sets, etc. That point came within the first five minutes. The book's a mess-barely coherent. The sets are cheesy and the singing uninspired-the cast looked bored too. The elderly man next to me was so bored he took out his top teeth in the middle of 'Help Me Rhonda' (true story.) The producers should be arrested for dropping classic Brian Wilson tunes willy-nilly into the story just so the cast can sing another song. I did perk up in Act 2 when the boys paraded around the 'beach' topless.

"Then elderly man next to me was so bored he took out his top teeth in the middle of 'Help Me Rhonda' (true story.)"
Now, if they had had him then get up on stage and sing the rest of Act I without his teeth, THAT might have been worth $100 to see -- sounds a hell of a lot more entertaining than what they have right now.
