Out of all the shows I think a few deserved to stay on broadway a lot longer. Im going to miss Young Frankenstein the most.

I'm going to miss Boeing Boeing so much - I don't think I ever laughed so hard at a show.

While each has its own individual reason for closure (many of which are quite, quite different), it's such a shocking thing to see nine shows closing in one day. That's what's perhaps so stirring about today.
For the Broadway historians here, is there a record as to the most shows closing in one day?

I would not be surprised if it's today.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it is a record. There was an article that showed the January closings in the past and I'm pretty sure only one or two others came close to 2009.
I will try to find it, but so far...no luck

I was fortunate enough to see some of the shows. Wishing all involved the best through these tough economic times.

I think I found what I think dramamama611 was talking about. Toward the bottom has a list of all the show closings in January through the years.

actually for some reason I decided to re-read it just before I read this thread, and when you mentioned not finding it I was like "hmmm...could it be in the article I just re-read that dramamama611 is talking about"
Its so sad to see all these shows go.
Edit: to fix spelling error

Every headline (but the last 2) at the top of the main board page is about closings.

Don't worry, people...White Christmas will surely be back, Liza and Estate were limited runs, Hairsrpay and 13 will defintely have a long life in regional and community theatres, and Grease...well...are we really sad about Grease?

Only because it adds to the carnage! (And I suppose SOME people liked it.)

This is truly "Black Sunday" for Broadway.

On the bright side...
Theatres are open for bright shiny new shows?
Gone doesn't mean forgotten, and while no one will miss Grease, the pound is weak against the dollar right now so you can always come visit us in the UK for your Hairspray fix?
Mark Rylance is coming home, yay?

It'll certainly be a busy time for the trucking companies, that's a hell of a lot of scenery to haul away to storage and to the dump.
