Hee hee. We sang that at my school's graduation last year! Sadly, I am graduating this year and we have the stupidest (is that a word or am I just stupid for asking if that is a word?) senior song, for both the class and my chorus. They will still grow on me, nonetheless.
Last year at graduation they did "Seasons of Love." Not really about graduating or anything, but it worked really well.
seasons of love is good, um, last year we sang "i move on" the original song in the chicago movie. also "here comes the sun", the beatles song.
"Make our Garden Grow" from Candide. Jeepers that is so hauntingly amazing and powerful
as long as its not vitamin c's or green day's song. ARGH.

perhaps No One is Alone (into the woods, of course)?
that could work
Although the vocal book for Wicked is being delayed, they are sending out emergency copies of "For Good" for graduations. Musicalschwartz.com is the way to go for that.
we are playing "seasons of love" for our graduation this year, and a couple of us are also doing "lean on me". haha, i know its cheesy but its fun and it'll get everyone movin'.
Part of me is rooting for the non-musical songs "I Try" by Macy Gray or "Here's to the Night" by Eve 6
(for laughs only, I must make the suggestion of "The Suncreen Song" by Baz Luhrman)
Before I Gaze at You Again (Camelot)
Make Our Garden Grow (Candide)
You'll Never Walk Alone (Carousel)
Seasons of Love (Rent)
Climb Every Mountain (Sound of Music)
For Good (Wicked)
and just for kicks,
We Go Together (Grease)

I think that for now, the best choice is FOR NOW from Avenue Q.
But only for now.

I would have suggested "This is the moment"-Jeckyll and Hyde (it's my personal grad. song) but someone beat me to it!
Alternatively - The Impossible Dream (Man of la Mancha)
Its not a Broadway but... 100 years from 5 for Fighting
Ok. 2 non-b'way thoughts
These Are Days - 10,000 Maniacs (Natalie Merchant)
The Sweetest Days - Vanessa Williams
This Is The Night - Clay Aiken
You Lift Me Up - Josh Groban
"The Best of Times Is Now" from La Cage Aux Folles.
My fifth graders are singing "For Good" from WICKED. As said in an earlier post, just e-mail carol@musicalschwartz.com, and she'll send you a copy. The first copy I got wasn't legible, so they sent another.
MusiPos2-By the way, do you know Estelle pace or are you her?

"We'll Never Say Goodbye" from the movie Sing soundtrack. Not a popular movie from 1989, but I get chills everytime I hear that song and wish it was written before I graduated from High-School.
"Our Lives" - The Calling
"This is the Night" - Eve 6
"You'll Never Walk Alone" - CAROUSEL
"We've Only Just Begun" - The Carpenters
"Landslide" - Dixie Chicks
"Walk On" - U2

Last night on American Idol, they did a great rendition of "Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha. I say go with something like that...it would be really memorable.
In Our Hands- SMILE
"To everything there is a season we know, a time to live and then a time to let go...In our hands, we take this earth and make this turning earth our own. And yes we are your children, be proud how well we've grown. Release our hands watch us stand alone."
Don't about finding the music though.
We're Gonna Make it After All -- Leader of the Pack. INCREDIBLE SONG.
hehe at my graduation my choir sang Seasons of Love as well...I had the pleasure of cracking on the high note of the guy solo in front of thousands of people. it was awesome.
as far as what I think would be good-
SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD title song
or
OUR TIME from Merrily! How perfect is that?
"I wash my face, then drink beer, then I weep. Say a prayer and induce insincere self-abuse, till I'm fast asleep"- In Trousers
I agree with everyone's comments about "For Good" from "Wicked." I just re-read the lyrics and it's a very fitting song. "No One Is Alone" is also a good pick. It has just the right balance of melancholia and hope. My own graduation song was "In My Life" by the Beatles. And I realize this one isn't Broadway, but if you want a surefire sob-fest song, try "Saying Goodbye" from "The Muppets Take Manhattan."
