I direct high schools musicals and we are considering Grease for our next show. I was showing my students the "Alma Mater" scene to give them an idea of how the stage version is different from the movie. They showed me a ton of videos on youtube of school productions of Grease that started with Danny and Sandy on talking about her going back to Australia, etc.  Does anyone know if there is a licensed version of Grease that is more similar to the movie?  Thanks.

I know there have been several productions that utilized songs from the film. I even got to see one at North Carolina Theatre earlier this year...

Any mention of Australia and my guess is they are illegally altering the script to match the movie. Don't do this. It puts your entire production in jeopardy. Just do what Samuel French licenses and teach your students right.

Do you mean the 2007 revival version? I don't believe it's officially licensed but you could certainly contact Samuel French and ask about it. Most likely any high schools that used that version just made the changes on their own.

You can ask Samuel French for permission to add the songs from the movie to your production.  There might be a fee involved, but there's a pretty good chance they'll say yes, as I know a lot of non-professional productions have (legally) used those songs.

The Australia thing on the other hand, I agree is probably being done illegally.  Use this opportunity to show your students what intellectual property is, and how to go through the right channels to get what you want (i.e. the songs from the movie).  Good luck!

No she wasn't LOL because Laura Osnes clearly did not use an effing Aussie accent in the show LOL

Didn't see it so wasn't totally sure but thought so as it would have been an unnecessary change.

Thanks everyone. The Samuel French site clearly has only one Grease option available, but after seeing so many movie/stage mashup productions online I thought maybe I was missing something.

They only offer one version publically. Exceptions have been made in the past. I just saw a high school production about two weeks ago and I'm pretty sure they used the 2007 Broadway libretto and orchestrations. That doesn't mean they got permission to use them as they are readily available through other means but they very well may have received permission. You'll never know unless you ask.
