Now, I pretty much know zip about Grease...but why do teens my age (around 13 or 14) love it so much? It seems like everyone in my choir class screamed for joy when the teacher announced that we were doing a Grease medley for a concert.
It's kinda rock and roll and just all around fun. I got into when I was 11 or 12. Thank God the it was just a phase.
Poor Souls.
I hate listening to it. But I guess it is a teenage phase.
I really have no idea. I'm a teenager and I really don't know what the big deal is. In 7th grade my school put on Grease and nearly 300 people auditioned! The next year (the musical was Once Upon a Mattress) 90 people auditoned.

Its a cute fun movie, for people to sing along to. Its just a good family musical.
I love Grease because it's just fun. I got into it when I was in second grade and have loved it ever since. A lot of people like Grease because it is so popular due to the movie, even though the movie is extremely different from the stage version
I was in Grease last year as Marty. It's a fun show to do! The script and plot is terrible, but for younger people it's a lot of fun.

I HATE Grease. With a passion. And I've always hated it. Don't know what it is.
I love grease, my dad was in it on broadway. I have the sound tack from the movie and love it, but that might me because frankif valli is on it...lol.
I have got some videos from the movie and some from stage, do you want me to send them to you?

"Its just a good family musical."
Not really... I guess maybe if the references go over the kids heads, but the movie has a lot of bad references. And when we performed the musical at our high school, a lot of parents freaked out about how it wasn't appropriate.

When my kids were in elementary school, I quote on quote ran the show with my neighbor. Okay moms who did not know what they were doing. But we had a vocal coach and a wannabe director. Had SRO for both performances and kids loved it beyond. Even had to do an encore performance the weekend after.
Yes, kids love it love it love it..
and quite honestly John Travolta is very easy on the eyes in that flick

"A fun family show" ??? hello! have you not listened to anything that gets said in the show? not only is the entire show extremely demeaning, but the basic moral of the story is that you have to change who you are/abandon your morals/become a slut to get the guy you love.
yes, the music and dancing is fun, but the book isn't anything great. the songs don't advance the story and the book and music don't flow together all that well.
fun show to be a part of. otherwise absolutely horrible
True, but don't forget that Danny changes for her too, so they probably come to a compromise.
Grease is corny. The musical plotline is beyond corny and the movie is, well, let's just say I don't like the movie. Why they cut out "Freddy my Love," "Those Magic Changes" and my favorite, "Mooning" is beyond me. But it is fun. Why does everything these days have to have "deep meaning?" with "beautiful orhestral music?" Why can't shows just be downright fun anymore? Why do people, and this is not directed at anyone in particular, have to hate on shows that are really popular just for the fact that they are popular?

I am with you on that.
Grease is not the best thing out there, but it is no worse then rent.
Grease definately isn't a family show, and it does have bad messages but its not supposed to be taken serious. Tell me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the original stage production written as a spoof. The movie is what made Grease into a "serious" story. But I agree with the others, I don't like Grease because the book and the music flow well together, or the songs are amazing. I like Grease because it's fun and I like the fact that its corny. Its fun to watch and be in.

They didn't completely cut out "Those Magic Changes". It was one of the songs playing at the dance. Updated On: 5/6/06 at 11:53 PM
I don't think the productions that you see around today of GREASE are anything like what was originally intended or for that matter was originally presented Off or On Broadway. There are two variations of script, sort of soft and hard core. the "softer" version was created to make it palatable to community and school groups. To give you an idea of what it was like one of Sandy's final lines is "Nah, F**K it! I bet she didn't say that in your school production.

also in the original, danny does NOT change for sandy, instead he quits the track team and goes back to his oldd ways

I can't remember, but she probably said "Nah, screw it, or something"
She definitely didn't saw F*ck though.
I think it was the making out onstage, etc, that riled the parents up.
I was glad that our school didn't decide to try to put songs from the movie in the play. I've heard a lot of productions do that now.

I don't mean this in a mean way, but that is so not the same!!! This song deserved better.
I also remember the pointed use of glad wrap in one of the numbers "Greased Lightning", as a contraceptive device (in the choreography), if you get my drift. Maybe not appropriate for school productions.
