Does anyone know why "Grease" is SO popular this year for regional productions? In my neck of the woods, New England, Ogunquit is doing it, Theatre by the Sea, North Shore Music Circus....and I am sure there are more that I'm not aware of. Just wondering.....

I realize that it is being done by a couple of the better known regional theatres, but still it seems like it is being done many times every year. While it isn't an amazing show, it is a good "butts in seats" show due to its name recognition and general popularity.

Posted: 5/29/14 at 11:43pmIt's also a fun, easy money type musical. Theaters know it will sell, and it's light-hearted and easy to cast, direct, design, etc. It's def. for the money. Although, most of them probably should have waited given the upcoming telecast. Or maybe they're snatching the rights because of the telecast, so everyone is doing it.
