It's not Halloween yet, which means we radio people are thinking Christmas already ;x
Seriously, what are your favorite Christmas/Winter Holiday songs from Broadway shows? Name the songs and the show they're from, please
My personal favorite:

I'm not really sure how it happened, but "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music seems to end up on many Christmas CDs.
Also, "We're Getting a New Deal For Christmas" from Annie.

SG, you're right. It's "Christmas At Hampton Court." Good song from a good show.
I have to second "Hard Candy Christmas." One of my favorite songs period. Even better in the winter.

WiCkEDrOcKS---It was written for "A Charlie Brown Christmas" TV special. But you're absolutely right about it being underrated. Gotta love Vince Guaraldi!

"I Don't Remember Christmas" is technically an Off-Broadway song from the revue "Starting Here, Starting Now." (Maltby/Shire)
And I agree... it's very angry and bitter (since it's about a break-up). But it's a great song.

Great suggestions, please keep 'em coming! Broadway, Off-Broadway, I like 'em all, as long as it was written to be sung by someone in a musical -- or a movie musical, ala Judy's Meet Me In St. Louis.
I do love "Christmastime is Here"... I might consider that one anyway, you're right, it's wonderful and completely underrated.
RE My Favorite Things: I think it's that darn line "Brown paper packages tied up with string." At that rate, "I'm Flying" becomes a holiday song since Michael's wonderful thought is "CHRISTMAS!" ;-p
Maltby/Shire have some wonderful biting songs. When we did Closer Than Ever, we thought their names sounded like a great cocktail: can't you just see ordering a "Maltby & Shire"?

Posted: 10/13/05 at 9:26pmthat one from she loves me is really funny, it kinda gets on your nerves after awhile but....oh right it's called "twelve days to christmas" - it's better on stage than recorded but still fun

Well, Janean, if you're going to open it up to film & TV musicals, there's a million of them!
Try pouring over the Rankin-Bass stuff. It's retro and fun, and most people know the songs well. (Holly Jolly Christmas, Silver and Gold, etc.)
You can add in White Christmas, Silver Bells (from The Lemon Drop Kid) and many others.
Also Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol has terrific songs by Jules Styne and Bob Merrill (of "Funny Girl" fame). And I also love the music from the Albert Finney "Scrooge" (Leslie Bricusse)
