I've been wondering too. If they're planning on filming it, they've got less than two weeks to do that.
I don't want to bring up my hopes too much and be highly disappionted later on if they decide not to film it. So for now, I'm going to tell myself that this project is most likely not going to happen.

Posted: 7/17/07 at 9:54amToo bad they won't do it when Scott Frankel is guest conducting tomorrow evening. That would have been a golden opportunity to capture something special; a composer conducting their own show.

Posted: 7/17/07 at 10:49amI think they'd want the whole cast there. The girl who plays Jackie won't be in on that evening, to my knowledge. Perhaps this will happen folks. You never know.

Posted: 7/17/07 at 10:53amIt was. And it could happen for Grey Gardens. It really, really should to. Maybe someone should give PBS a copy of Ben Brantley's review.

PBS already confirmed they are not filming it. They stated that if someone else films it, they would air it as part of their Great Performances series. This is what happened with COMPANY -- that show was filmed by a private company which negotiated with PBS to air it, which they are. PBS didn't film COMPANY.

To put an old myth to rest -- Broadway Television, a company that went bankrupt, filmed JEKYLL & HYDE, SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE and PUTTING IT TOGETHER. PBS didn't film them. They only aired them.
PBS also didn't film: THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, CONTACT, TWELFTH NIGHT or CANDIDE. Lincoln Center filmed those, to which PBS aired them on their LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER series.
All those Sondheim shows: INTO THE WOODS, PASSION, SWEENEY TODD and now COMPANY were all filmed by a private company, to which PBS aired as part of their Great Performances series.
Those Andrew Lloyd Webber shows: CATS and JOSEPH & THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT were filmed by RUG (Really Useful Group -- Andrew Lloyd Webber's production company). PBS didn't film them -- only aired them.
PBS doesn't film these shows -- private companies hired by each show films them. PBS only airs them.
You want GREY GARDENS to be aired on PBS? Then hire a private production company to film it and then contact PBS. I'm sure they'll agree to air it for you.

Well lets get organized.
Seeing as 3/4 of that response doesn't apply to Grey Gardens, what company(ies) filmed the Sondheim shows?
Maybe we can appeal to them...

David Hasselhoff, as I understand it, financed the filming of JEKYLL & HYDE. I guess, even then, he was into self-sabotage.
I guess the person to talk to about financing a GREY GARDENS film would be the freak with the ever-open beak, Rosie O'D.

Well she seems to be pretty diligent in answering her "Ask Ro" section so I posted:
"1st wanted to thank you for helping to get GG on Broadway. Seen it 4 times,"loved it." My ?:
"COMPANY" was filmed by a private comp to be aired on PBS, do you have any pull for this to happen with GG?"
Obviously there's a word restriction.
It was question #1600 today, maybe if she gets a bunch of the same nature she'll post a response...
