i am so excited for this. drew looks great. she deff looks the part but im also curious about the accent. i think she'll do a good job though
As a huge fan of both Barrymore and Lange, I am champing at the bit for this one!
not to threadjack... but starting a completely new thread on this seems tedious... does anyone know why Little Edie was made a blonde on Broadway? I understand artistic license.. but.. there was really no reason to as older Little Edie was bald...
She wasn't made "blonde." Gettelfinger played the role with her natural hair color (hazelnut? reddish?) and Erin Davie happened to be a blonde so she remained a blonde on stage. I doubt it was a deliberate decision from the creative team to make her blond.
The black and white photo of Little Edie posted looks to me like she has cellulite. Is this just me? I'm not talking about Drew, just making connection that may change why all those posters on Just Jared are being so nasty about Drew's.
This should be a very interesting film.
Erin did wear a wig though....
There's acutally a picture in the documentary where Edie does have blonde hair. It's the one she said was "in the window of Baccarat Crystal" and when her father saw it in the window, he smashed it.
Artscallion, I think that's just an affected way of speaking people had back in the 30s/40s. People speak that way in books from those times too. I think it implies a certain world weariness.
So my best friend calls me up yesterday and tells me has some big news to tell me so we should meet up for some drinks to talk. When I get there he tells me how he got this part in an HBO movie and is in a few scenes as Drew Barrymore's suitor and gets kissed by her. I was like "um....Grey Garden?" and he was surprised that I knew. Anyways...thought that was a fun tidbit. When you see the movie and see the scenes with the young banker that her family is trying to set her up with...thats my best friend.
EDIT: Also...Those pictures are from his first day of filming with her (The first day of production period). He was saying how he was in 30's bathing trunks for his scene.

I bet you're right, Ronin. That's absolutely the best explanation.
Wicked cool, congrats to your friend.
HBO movie?
You mean this is for Pay-TV only?
I don't care about a lisp either. And although Drew has the look down, I think what's most important is that the actor capture the essence of the person. I have total confidence that Drew can do it. I also believe that Jessica can do it with big Edie.
I'm really looking forward to this film, being one of the people who want more info about the ladies and how they morphed into what they ultimately became.
Drew with Olivia Waldriff, the actress playing Young Jackie Kennedy on the movie set.
According to the articles I've read, it is still unknown whether the film will be released on HBO or as a feature film in the theatres.
Wow, this looks AMAZING. I miss Grey Gardens.
Ah! This is really exciting, they look awesome.

RE: Mateo's picture -
I hope she didn't fall!
ray-andallthatjazz86 - this isn't community theater , EVERYTHING is a deliberate decision by the creative team (even if they don't wear a wig ) that is a decision as well.
My post from the GG thread:
I love Lange and think she will be great. My only concern is her wretched facelift (oh GOD why did she even get one in the first place.) Big Edie clearly never had any work done and Jessica is pulled very tight with those arched eyebrows. She doesn't even look like herself anymore. UGH! There had to be a more earthy actress available for the role I would suppose.
The site is blocked at my work for the reason of "Provocative Attire." No kidding.
Here's a magazine interview where Drew talks about making the film.
