I really love this ... if it's true. He's 43. She's 69 and clearly out of her mind.
That's a 26-year age difference.
EDIT: And she really is Norma Desmond now. The living, breathing, real deal.

Bad casting.
Herbie is a nice guy, not a stud muffin. Plus he doesn't have to be that good of a singer or dancer.

When I read the thread title, I thought Gould. I still say Kevin Kline is the best choice for the role. I don't see Jackman as Herbie at all, even with an age-appropriate Rose.
As long as I'm at it, I'll also repeat my suggestions of Anne Hathaway as Louise and Anna Kendrick as June.

Can we just point out here that Barbra is NOT the director of the movie-to-be. Yes, she's the star, but a director has yet to be chosen. Also, being talked to about a part is a vast difference from being cast.
I will say that if Barbra is sounding delusional, doesn't that make her a great fit for Rose?

Perhaps, charles, but as best12bars pointed out, that would make her more suitable for Sunset Boulevard.
Trust me, STREISAND will choose the director, and have final say in casting, craft services items, everything!

Posted: 5/26/11 at 12:05pmI'd prefer Kevin Kline or Tom Hanks, personally.

Posted: 5/26/11 at 12:08pmWell, if they want someone age-appropriate to play Rose's dad, they're going to have to coax Harry Morgan out of retirement.

Well if they're going for silly casting, why don't they just audition Betty White for the role of Herbie.
I even think most of the names mentioned here are wrong. I've always seen Herbie was a bit rough around the edges but can clean up well. I had always wished that when Allan Melvin was alive, that he would have played the role.
At this moment, I'm sort of leaning toward Hugh Laurie playing Herbie.
And if they commit this to film again, I renew my request to see the strippers played as follows:
Angela Lansbury - Elektra
Chita Rivera - Tessie Turra
Elaine Stritch - Mazeppa

I might be getting ahead of myself here, but what about Aaron Tveit for Tulsa? He's got the voice and the young blonde ingenue quality that Tulsa needs.
As for Louise, I can see Lea Michele playing her (they need a recognizable face who can sing) but I have no clue who could play June.

Posted: 5/26/11 at 4:33pmDoes Lea Michele need to be brought up for every F'in role? And the thought of her stripping and being sexy makes me want to vomit. Not just a little bit in my mouth, but full on projectile "Stand By Me, pie eating contest" vomit.

Posted: 5/26/11 at 4:40pmFor modern-day musical movies? Yes, she does. Love it or hate it, Gypsy needs a recognizable face to sell, and the majority of the outside world that would go see a movie musical like Gypsy watches Glee.

Posted: 5/26/11 at 4:43pmI don't think Tulsa needs to be blonde.
#23Guess who Barbra has talked to for the part of Herbie?
Posted: 5/26/11 at 4:48pmBut June needs to be black since black people watch GLEE.

Much to his chagrin, my gag reflex toward Lea Michele is similar to Jordan's.
Based on history, don't expect anyone particularly strong, such as the previously suggested Anne Hathaway, to snag the role of Louise. LaStreisand just won't have it.
..and she certainly is going to allow some Babs wannabe (nee Lea) to play opposite her.
