Our local group that books "Broadway" tours just announced today, and next February they're bringing in Gypsy. The production is done by Phoenix Entertainment (one of the backers of the Grease TV talent search right now) and one hidden spot on the website mentions that it's "hot on the heels of the recent Broadway revival." Best optimistic guess - it'll be based on the LuPone/Encores production. Pessimist guess - they're just taking advantage of timing (the promo materials focus on the score and its place in theatrical history. Even the promo video on the site is a montage of FILM VERSIONS). But the fact that CC announced just over a week ago, and Phoenix has its ducks in a row already is a little coincidental, don'tcha think?
Anyone know anything about this tour? I did hear through backstage.com that they auditioned a few kids in January for the tour.
In any case, I guess the debut of a tour in fall '07 means that they're not going to do a Broadway transfer of it.

I know nothing about the show nor the tour...
other than they just announced it coming to my area too and I was rather excited!!!
Can't wait to see it.
Sally Struthers will be playing Rose!
They held two open calls and some callbacks from earlier auditions recently.
I was called to go in because they were looking for a petite adult (over 1
to swing the children's roles.. which sounds pretty terrible if you ask me. I couldn't go, but I'm very curious as to whether they actually end up casting someone for that purpose. I just can't imagine an 18 year old Baby June. It defeats the purpose of two people playing the role. Why not just have Dainty June play both parts when the little one is out?
With LuPone, ya think?

Kathy Halenda is playing Mama Rose. Patti LuPone and Bernadette will not be touring.
Sueleen, get your OCD scrip refilled, STAT!
Rath, Clown U called, you may pick up your honorary sense of humor any time.
Is yours still on backorder?
Does Walmart still stock that? I thought that fell off their shelves along with the falling prices (when employee harrassment really kicked into high gear).
Maybe that's why I don't have one - no Walmarts in my area.
Sue, is that what happened to yours as well?
Ahhhahahaha. You are killing me.KILLING ME! If this is your comic monologue it is no wonder you can't even get cast at a fishing convention. Oh, STOP!
At least we have one thing in common - we find each other's senses of humors to be completely non-existent.
However, I don't place a "disclaimer" on my sig in the desperate hope that someone WILL find me amusing one day.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnndddd back on topic, please. LOL
I find you ALL amusing :)
LOL! Who is Kathy Halenda?
Rath / Sue -- maybe I got the last sense of humor off the Walmart shelf . . . I find both of you to be QUITE amusing. Maybe they are having a recall on it like the tainted petfood.
(why did I bring that up??? now I'm about to cry!)

Kathy Halenda credits include 11 national tours ("Oliver", "42nd Street", "Grand Hotel", "Jolson" & more), and nearly 200 regional and stock productions throughout the United States. Kathy has also toured the U.S. with her one-woman shows, "Sophie Tucker - Last of the Red Hot Mamas", and "Brassy Broads of Broadway". She is both a Helen Hayes & Irene Ryan Award nominee/winner. She was most recently seen as Mame Dennis in Barksdale Theatre's production of "Mame" in Richmond, VA this past winter.
As someone who knows Kathy personally, and can attest to her talent, she will be exquisite as Mama Rose, and truly delight audiences with her sass, her attitude, her fantastic voice and persona, and most of all - her enormous heart. She'll knock your socks off when she comes to your town.
Thanks, Jason. She sounds very talented. Congratulations to her.

Thanks for the update, Jason! Much appreciated.

I made it to the finals for Louise and got cut
But,the girl who got Louise is from Long Island and she's quite talented. Her name is Missy Dowse.
My buddy Adam is in the tour. I know he was in the final callbacks for Tulsa, however I don't know if he got the part.
it seemed to me that the casting people wanted tall girls. Every single girl remaining for Louise/Blondes were 5'7 and over. I think the tour is in great hands though. Everyone called back were really amazing singers and dancers.
I Know Louise will be played by Missy Dowse
she just played JO in the Long Island Premiere of Little Women and is AMAZING!

My friend just got called to be a Farmboy/Uncle Jocko. Pretty scary that a Farmboy is doubling up as Uncle Jocko.. but it's a road show and Consolidation is the key. It will be based off of the 2003 Revival, using most of the costumes & the set pieces.
