Wow, this is unexpected. Guess the plans to bring him along fell through.

Good.
Now just dump Diane Paulus, too, and I'll be entirely thrilled.

Posted: 11/20/08 at 6:53pmBummer. I was looking forward to getting to see him play Claude.

Posted: 11/20/08 at 6:59pmThis sucks. I'm sort of not interested now.

Posted: 11/20/08 at 6:59pmWhile I still love the show itself (and have no plans to go to NYC due to financial issues) that still just blew all my intrest in this out the door.

Posted: 11/20/08 at 7:13pmGood. All the boy has going for him is a pretty voice. He's boring. Does this mean Christopher J. Hanke will step in or will they be getting someone new? And who sang the song "Shelia Franks" because she should be replaced. Her voice was nothing spectacular.

Posted: 11/20/08 at 7:15pmWell, the show didn't really need him to sell tickets. There are dozens of young Broadway actors who could tackle the role.

Posted: 11/20/08 at 7:17pmI am a huge fan of this show, and would say to anyone who did not see the show last summer...don't let Mr Groff's absence discourage you. I never got to see him as Claude and I enjoyed each viewing immensely (went 3 times). The rest of the cast (especially Mr Swenson) was great, and the show is very powerful. Just my humble opinion.

"Well, the show didn't really need him to sell tickets."
You're right. It needs someone bigger.

I don't get it.
He must have gotten a more lucrative gig.

RentBoy86, there is no such song in HAIR.
If you are referring to "I Believe In Love (which beings with "Sheila Franklin, second semester, NYU...,") THAT was sung by Caren Lyn Manuel, who is being replaced for the Broadway production.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Maybe he wants to do a show where he gets to wear pants for the full performance.
FYI-Groff did not remove his clothes in HAIR (at last summer's show at Central Park Delacorte Theater) He was never nude in the show!

Thanks, J*. Didn't realize that.
With that being the case, I no longer care whether Groff is in HAIR or not.

Groff's character, Claude does not get nude at the end of the Act 1. Everyone else has the option to go nude, but Claude never gets naked.
so it's not like it was his choice to keep his clothes on. it's written that way in the script.

Posted: 11/20/08 at 8:05pmUnfortunately, I didn't get to see it last summer so what I see in February will not be up for comparison. However, after seeing Rock of Ages, I do hope and pray that Will Swenson will be part of the revival. He was terrific in ROA.
