Good for her that she has an extra 3 million that she can pour into it...
And I think that Dancin' got bumped for a much more attractive option in Waiting for Godot with an all-star cast.

Posted: 12/15/08 at 9:13pmI pity those subscribers who thought they were going to see Dancin' and had it replaced by Waiting for Godot. Granted, considering Roundabout's track record with musicals, it's probably all to the best; but you'd think by the time Roundabout's prospectus went out, they'd have come to some finality as to what they were doing over a period of one year.

Yes, Cabaret, Sunday in the Park with George, The Pajama Game....what a bad track record.

Posted: 12/15/08 at 9:39pmroundabout does some -- SOME -- interesting stuff, but their track record is replete with evidence that they are a sucker bet for subscribers. burnt a few years ago, i know better now.

Posted: 12/15/08 at 10:48pmI still think HAIR on Broadway is a bit iffy. It appeal to the Spring Awakening / Wicked / RENT crowd, but it'll be a tough sell. I think the production was/is brilliant, but I'm curious to see how it's done in a proscenium atmosphere. I wish the days of the avant garde productions weren't dead. I think this show would really benefit from an environmental production.

Here's the thing.
I think a revival of "Dancin'" is kind of moronic.
But I subscribed to Roundabout's season. "Dancin'" has turned into "Waiting for Godot," with Nathan Lane and Bill Irwin.
AS A SUBSCRIBER, you are not allowed to exchange your shows.
I don't want to see "Waiting for Godot." I would rather see Mary Louise Parker in "Hedda Gabler."
Roundabout DOESN'T allow these exchanges.
It's SOOOOOOOO stupid. I'm a subscriber at MTC, at the Public, at MCC, and at Playwright's Horizons.
Every one of those theatres allows you to pick your dates.
Roundabout does not.
And even worse, they sell one show ("Dancin") and replace it with another, and as a subscriber, you're SCREWED.
Don't subscribe to Roundabout. I'm just saying.

According to the press release, it does, hence the reason they're starting previews 3 days early.

Posted: 12/16/08 at 1:14amI have to wait longer to see Dancin'???? My parents wouldn't take me in 1978 because they thought Fosse wasn't appropraite for a 7 year old. Now I have to wait another year??? My heart is broken...

I wouldn't be shocked at all if Dancin' never appeared on Roundabout's schedule again. I'm hoping they move forward with their proposed revivals of Side Show, Anything Goes, and Merrily.

for better or for worse, Roundabout is often guilty of changing its announced schedule. sometimes it's money, often it's cast availability. it's just one of those things. frankly, I'd take a star-laden cast of Godot than a revival of Dancin' any day.
and while you can't change shows, you can easily change dates with Roundabout for the specific show. overall, if I enjoy more than half the shows offered in a given year, I'm satisfied. with a subscription, you always have to take the bad with the good. just one of those trade-offs.
