We all know that HAIR is doing poorly in the grosses, but I was just looking and they have set all their premium seats for the regular price of 126.50. They are looking desperate to sell tickets.
Hopefully they can stick around.

It will make it through the summer, but after that? Who knows. But they haven't been doing well for some time. And this isn't really "news".
Maybe some of the cast can move to the tour.

Posted: 5/13/10 at 9:27pmAce is ok. Kyle is terrible. Horrible. And I loved him in Spring Awakening. Diana is ok, but no Caissie. Someone needs to tell Annaleigh that she isn't playing Glinda anymore. Vanessa is great. Jeanette is great. Wallace is ok, nothing special. Better yet, bring back Gavin, Will, Caissie, and Kacie.

Posted: 5/13/10 at 9:31pm^ Sorry, I will continue to disagree with you. Ace is such an improvement on Will. Will looks NOWHERE near the age of a high school student. I personally love Annaleigh as Jeanie and I prefer Diana over Caissie. Only person I would love to come back would be Gavin, but Kyle's not that bad.

They're looking "desperate" by lowering an absurdly unreasonable price down to just plain expensive? How is asking OVER ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS "looking desperate"?
I won't argue that the show is doing WELL, but your logic is ridiculous. BWW and its hyperboles...!
I thought Ace was the best of the new lead trio. Kyle was fine, Diana was horrible, IMO. I was also really impressed by Annaleigh and Jason Wooten. The tribe as a whole, eh.

At this point - making it through the summer is looking less likely. It's lost a lot of money the past two weeks, and probably at least the last 4. They clearly upped discounts significantly last week to up the grosses and attendance, but the avg ticket price was way down.
I'd guess they have almost no advance at this point, and have been cutting deep into their reserve. I would think they'd hold on through May, and see if numbers pick up A LOT in June. If not, I could see them axing it in late June or early July. Obviously, the summer will improve their numbers, but I don;t know if it will do so enough.
Either way, I'd think they are done right after labor day at the very least. And either way, they've had a great run, made a lot of money, won the Tony. Lot to be proud of.

Since the theater wouldn't likely have a tenant before the fall, I'm still going to stick to my prediciton: through the summer with a Sept closing.
I actually LIKED Kyle, more than I thought I would. I thought he was dreadful in SA. I thought Ace had no human touch. Didn't get to see Diana.
The rest of the tribe was "OK" but the magic was gone.

Posted: 5/13/10 at 9:58pmI just checked Telecharge and they still have premium seats ($250+) for performances over the next few weeks.
#11HAIR is hurting... A LOT!
Posted: 5/13/10 at 10:04pmThey are selling them as both premium and as regular priced.
#12HAIR is hurting... A LOT!
Posted: 5/13/10 at 10:04pmI thought Ace was pretty good. Diana was fantastic (but not as good as Caissie). Annaleigh was pretty cute. Vanessa and Kyle were terrible. Definitely a downgrade from seeing the original cast.

Posted: 5/13/10 at 10:14pmI just don't understand why no one wants to see the show. For a while it was the biggest hit and now it's the most depressing thing on Broadway. One of the main reasons I haven't seen the show recently is because I don't want to sit in an empty theater.

Posted: 5/13/10 at 10:18pmA 67% average capacity isn't an empty house. A number of musicals currently running have been seeing similar capacities lately.

Posted: 5/13/10 at 10:18pmThe night I went to see the new cast was packed and the audience was just as into it as always. Of course, a good chunk of the house was comped because it was during the week the critics were back. :/ But it was nice to see with such a great audience, at least.

I too think Hair will close this fall, unfortunately. If they do, they'll probably benefit from announcing it as soon as possible so they pick up during the summer and can go out with a bang (a little bang at least?). They could get all those people who want to see it one last time and those who haven't yet to hurry up since it'll be their only chance.

A lot of tickets in the last week were comped. Some reviews have already come out. Most of the reviews seem to be positive on the shape of the show overall.
I saw the new cast last week and thought they were great. I loved Kyle and liked Diana and Ace a lot. Diana's Easy to be Hard is a standout number in the show. Wallace and Jason are also strong additions to the cast. I also liked how young Kyle looked. To me it made the ending all the more powerful. Hopefully things pick up.
The NYT did a piece today on premium seating at shows and a complaint about Hair's ticket pricing system for groups from a school teacher. Coincidence?

A lot of the appeal of the show was the original cast. With them in London, and most New Yorkers who wanted to see it having seen it already, there's no insentive to see the American Idol/Lite version of this revival. I thought of taking a friend to see it who hadn't seen it yet and then realized that Idol rejects and Glinda #30 in it.
They should have just cast really great unknown in it with tons of energy, sent the critics back, and then have let the buzz build up again.
Or just realized that everything has its day and this production of HAIR has had more than a few in the sun. I just hope the Idols stay far away from the tour, but I can see them closing it on Broadway and getting this cast to tour.
