Manilow released an album in 2004 called SCORES (SONGS FROM COPACABANA AND HARMONY). It’s available to stream. The first seven songs are from COPACABANA and the last seven, from HARMONY..
I’m not sure that all of the numbers here are in the current iteration, but it appears that most are.
For anyone interested, Deutsche Grammophon released an album in 2014 featuring a recreation of the group called, COMEDIAN HARMONISTS: DIE LIEBE KOMMT, DIE LIEBE GEHT. It will give you a taste of how the group would’ve sounded had they been recorded today. It’s available to stream.
Oh not implying their producers just saying they have the clout (Warren has all the Chicago money) and Barry is Barry. So with someone like Ken D they could probably get the funds to get some this to Broadway. But I don’t think this is the type of piece that would really crackle on Broadway. It’s got a Scottsboro Boys vibe.
Hm. The Scottsboro Boys was one of the best shows ever created. It's a brilliant work of art, it's not the creators fault that tourists want fluff and no substance for a Broadway show. In London, it was the show to see.
This show is cotton candy fun. They are not even in the same universe. Period.
One review that we did not get on Opening Night: Peter Marks of the WaPo left before the show started because the venue was not enforcing mask requirements after their preshow gala.
Good for Peter. Aside from any underlying health concerns (which are none of our business), he has a lot of shows to see this month between NYC and Washington, and getting Covid from careless audience members would prevent him from doing his job.
He is full of it. I was at the same show everyone was in masks. Barry was not of course, and maybe two people in the audience. They would not let you in the lobby or show without a mask. They were checking cards also. They also made an announcement at Intermission for a reminder
As between the estimable Peter Marks and an anonymous person on the internet, I'm going with Peter on this one. And people in glass houses shouldn't throw "total lie" around. LOL
I was at that performance in question - EVERYONE around me was fully masked the whole time as far as I could tell. About half of the audience had come from a benefit dinner, upstairs in the same building, where they were not masked so there was a little bit of questioning about if they had to be masked during the performance (especially as requirements have been changing a lot in the city lately). The ushers were very clear when seating people and at intermission they were on top of it reminding people with masks below their noses, or taking them down to talk to friends, to please keep masks up. Then they made another announcement before the start of Act Two. It was pretty on par with most other shows I've been to lately in terms of ushers doing their jobs (very well) and audience compliance.
I saw this show last week and I , and the capacity house, really seemed to enjoy it . Does anyone know if there will be a recording of it? I did read that it has been extended.
