adamgreer, you're correct. HBO has only ordered a pilot thus far, but having read the script, I can't imagine it's not going to be ordered to series. The writing is terrific.
ljay, that's the first I've read of LuPone being a series regular. Before the announcement of Sarandon today, all previous articles have listed her role as "possibly recurring." I guess we'll see which it is, but considering her involvement in WOMEN ON THE VERGE... and the nature of her character in the pilot as written, I'd be inclined to think she's recurring.
The show is sort of divided into two distinct sets of characters. One group is Norbert's character's friends and family, who interact with him on a personal level mostly outside of the goings on of his professional life. The other are the cast, crew, and production team for the show-within-the-show, who interact with him on a work level, although a subplot with one of those characters crosses over in a way I won't spoil.
I imagine the actors playing the family roles will be the series regulars, since those roles are anchored a little more centrally, and the actors playing the roles involved in the show he's written (like LuPone) will be recurring.
