I wonder what the chances are that the scripts will be as good as Canada's SLINGS & ARROWS . . .

LuPone is the only stumbling block for me, but she is certainly well-suited on paper for that type of role. I'd give it a shot.

I'm not a big fan of LuPone's screen work but I do love me some Frank Langella and Hope Davis! I can't wait to see this, it has so much potential. I'm really curious to see what Kathryn Bigelow is going to do with this and to what extent she'll be involved in the series if it gets picked up. I hope HBO decides to go ahead and order a full season.

It is a about a New York Family and that seems to be the setting.I assume filming will take place there.

I'm pretty sure Norbert Leo Butz is still attached as the protagonist composer. I think it was an error on EW.com's behalf (who first reported it) I could be wrong though.

Susan Sarandon has now joined the cast. Additionally, Karine Plantadit, Brooks Ashmanskas, and Andre Ward also have roles in the pilot:

I was just walking down 53rd between Lexington and Third and saw a bunch of trucks, film crews etc. The signs posted on the street said that the name a the project was Maraculous Year...yes, spelled that way. Wonder if it's the pilot?

Is LuPone's role in this recurring or regular? If it's recurring, I doubt it'll interfere, especially since the show will film in New York.

LuPone's role is recurring. If anyone's involvement in a Broadway show is going to be hampered by the shooting schedule for this, it will be Norbert Leo Butz and CATCH ME IF YOU CAN.

To add icing to the cake, Adam Guettel will be composing the music for the show-within-the-show.

Based on the articles, it's only been picked up for a pilot. There might not be a show beyond the pilot if HBO doesn't like it.

adamgreer, you're correct. HBO has only ordered a pilot thus far, but having read the script, I can't imagine it's not going to be ordered to series. The writing is terrific.

ljay, that's the first I've read of LuPone being a series regular. Before the announcement of Sarandon today, all previous articles have listed her role as "possibly recurring." I guess we'll see which it is, but considering her involvement in WOMEN ON THE VERGE... and the nature of her character in the pilot as written, I'd be inclined to think she's recurring.

The show is sort of divided into two distinct sets of characters. One group is Norbert's character's friends and family, who interact with him on a personal level mostly outside of the goings on of his professional life. The other are the cast, crew, and production team for the show-within-the-show, who interact with him on a work level, although a subplot with one of those characters crosses over in a way I won't spoil.

I imagine the actors playing the family roles will be the series regulars, since those roles are anchored a little more centrally, and the actors playing the roles involved in the show he's written (like LuPone) will be recurring.

To add to what somethingwicked said, remember this is a show that will hopefully have to have a number of arcs throughout the season so LuPone might not even be there come season 2 since I doubt the series will be dealing with this particular show forever.
I can't wait to see this, the cast is ridiculously impressive. I hope they get a full series order.
