Strange that it's posted as a limited engagement, but there is no closing date listed thus far. Does anyone have any idea what the expected run will be?

Yes Jane2, I saw the original multiple times.

No, I have not seen it in a larger venue but then again, have you seen versions in a larger venue that were worked on specifically by the authors? (Legitimately asking -- I'm not aware that there have been others...)

Also, just to those who question/wonder about Spencer Liff's role, am I recalling incorrectly or wasn't Jerry Mitchell credited with Musical Staging for the original? And this was before he was considered a real "director" of any kind, I believe. So the precedent is certainly there to have a true choreographer on the team.

"I'm totally a newbie to the show, so forgive me, but are there other characters or is it basically NPH and the band?"

The characters are Hedwig and the band, though only backup singer Yitzhak is a clearly defined (and supporting) character.

Average nut,

The show was staged twice at New World Stages in NYC. as fund raisers. It didn't go over well, because of so many factors I'd rather not post here and now. Also, the show has been done regionally, but those I've never seen.

Just to give you some background, I managed the Jane St. Theater and saw all the Hedwig performances. I appear on the DVD as part of the place. The show is close to my heart and affected my life in many ways. I have doubts about it on broadway but I just have to trust JCM and hope for success.

Yitzak btw, is not a backup singer, more like Hedwig's husband, and is on stage for almost the entire show.

And he's also part of the band as a singer, is he not?

Lea Michele would be perfect for Yitzak.

He's as much part of the band as Hedwig is., and yes he sings but what I meant is to expand his role in the show from 'backup singer.' as you described him. He's an integral part of Hedwig's life and story and is by his side during the entire show.

According to the original rumors, this was going to be a rewrite incorporating the original Hedwig material, elements of the screen version, and the planned but aborted sequel to the story.

As far as I have heard, John Cameron Mitchell has been quietly workshopping the sequel in small gatherings as recently as a month ago.
