Thinking about subscribing to the TDF membership. Just a little unclear as to how it works. I understand you can get tickets several weeks prior, or just days prior. What about when it comes down to hours? How many hours prior to you need to buy them? Is it all done online or do you go to the box office? Thanks for your help!
It's done online. The website tells you what's available.
Thank you! So the best option is to grab something the minute you see it and not wait. Correct? And if I understand things correctly, prices are between $20-$36? Appreciate you help!
TDF will stop offering tickets to a certain performance once their supply runs out. So if there's a show you want to see on a specific date, I would suggest you get them right away. Prices range per show. They're typically more than the rush prices, but in my experience, the seats have been better than what rushes offer. Well, at least they're not majorly obstructed.
Definitely buy them when you see them! Prices vary, but usually $9 for off-off-Broadway, about $20 for off-Broadway, $35 for Broadway plays and $45 for musicals.
Some may disagree with this, but I find the seats pretty poor usually. That's why I no longer use TDF. I realize some people are not as OCD as I am about where they sit, but I tend to prefer using a discount code and getting seats that I know are much better even if it costs a little more. Personal choice. During previews, friends did TDF for Ghost the same night we used a discount code. We actually paid less for our front row center mezzanine tickets than they did for near very last row of mezzanine against the wall.
I find that TDF seating is usually in the rear orchestra over to one side or the other, or somewhere in the mezzanine. I have more often than not been delighted to pick up my tickets and see where they are. That's part of the fun of TDF!
I had third row center orchestra for How to Succeed recently (near the end of the show's run, admittedly). For Other Desert Cities I was in the orchestra, toward the side and back.
Thanks - I also tend to like to know where I'm sitting ahead of time so will likely continue using discount codes.....
A lot of times TDF will tell you before ordering whether the seats are definitely in the rear mezz or balcony. If that warning isn't there, I find my TDF seats are usually in rows J-R orchestra or first- or second-row mezz, which is my favorite place to sit for most shows.
Once my membership is up and going...I buy the tickets online. Where do you pick them up? Box office, I'm guessing?
Yes, most of the time. Every once in a while, they mail the tickets to you beforehand.

Does TDF still have limited membership: students, artists, seniors and priests/nuns?
I just noticed that TDF is having a Spring Sale on membership, now only $25. Details are on the lower left side of tdf.org.
