doubt it'll work considering the short time span left. was actually in Times Square on Tuesday and thought it was about time Hair put some people out there to adverstise. didn't know they were simply volunteers.

Too little, too late. The show's no longer making money; therefore it should close.
And seriously, who has the time (or money for that matter) to see a show 80 times?? I can't think of ANY show that I would want to sit through 80 times. Even if it was one of my favorite shows, I think I would get tired of it after a while.

Cast member and Dance Captain for HAIR, Arbender Robinson, spoke of his concern for the production: “I still don’t understand why we are out here fighting for this and not the people who initially fought so hard to bring it to Broadway. The message of this musical goes beyond community and monetary success, it’s about the message: You always have a voice and you can always change the way things are with it."
Lord.

Posted: 6/17/10 at 3:34pmIt is sad when a show decides not to bow out with dignity. Don't get me wrong, I love the show saw it some where between 17 and 25 times.

I don't understand that either. I'd much rather go check out a show I haven't seen before. I can't imagine seeing any show 10x let alone 80x. Insane.

Maybe it would run longer if the cast started returning their paychecks.

Posted: 6/17/10 at 3:40pmThe most I have ever seen of one show was 7 performances, and that felt like a lot. In hindsight, 6 would have done the trick. :) It shocks me how often some people go and still enjoy themselves.

Here's an idea for a "campaign to keep the show open"...

Posted: 6/17/10 at 3:47pmI was in a production of Hair. Twice. And yeah, there's something about the show that makes you feel like you've got to get out there and spread the word to everyone and blah, blah, blah because the show has changed you forever. They'll discover that the feeling passes.

Posted: 6/17/10 at 3:52pm^that's great PRS on you being in a production. i think that's fab. i love this show. the premis, the message, etc etc. i absolutely get what you are saying. i have actually seen it change people. staunch republicans even. but it did not last. if i am honest, the way it changed me didn't last. but it got me out of a slump.

Not just 80 times. From the article:
Two fans even confessed to seeing the show over 80 times since the posting of its closing announcement.
80 times since the posting of the closing announcement. Wasn't the closing announced approx 10 days ago or so?

It was bad wording on the articles behalf. They meant since the posting of the announcement that the show was closing that 2 fans had admitted to seeing the show over 80 times.

It's nice that there are fans out there who care so much about the show, but do they really think that making a facebook page and marching around Times Square is going to save it? The show has been losing money for a while now; bringing five friends with you to your 81st visit or getting 1,000 people out of facebook's 500 million users to "like" a page won't change that. The show has had a spectacular run. Why can't they just appreciate that and let it go gracefully?
For the record, I'm a huge HAIR fan. I saw the production three times, but after the third I knew I had gotten everything I could out of the show. It would be nice if these fans could appreciate the HAIR experiences that they've had rather than worry about not having them in the future.

Posted: 6/17/10 at 4:23pmShows close. SH*T happens. File for unemployment and start going to auditions. It had a good run, made some money, and itn't making money anymore, so it's closing. It's going to tour and have a nice life after Broadway. They also made a Grammy nominated recording and went to London. Pretty nice life. These fans will just have to choose a new show to obsess over. It's not non-profit theatre. The producers are doing the smart thing. Close on Broadway and do minimal recasting for the tour. Some people are behaving like the show is closing without profit and without having reached a wide audience. It's done both. Move on!

IF these people were serious about extending the run they would go to the box office and buy tickets - at full price. That is how you keep a show running.
I liked HAIR . It was a good production, had a long run and made some money, Now it has run out of audience. Like Mildred said - Shows close. Every show will eventually close. This is a good thing.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Posted: 6/17/10 at 5:39pmI love this production, and trust me, I'm quite upset about it closing so soon, but this is ridiculous. This isn't going to do anything. The best thing to do at this point is just to go, be there, and enjoy the show while you can.

Loosen your dance belt, you're not getting enough oxygen to your brain. It costs buckets of money to run a show on Broadway. People no longer want to spend money on Hair. Unless you're willing to move to a Lort D Contract, it's time to close.

I love this show as well, and sure, it'd be great if it didn't close, but I agree with the majority. Unfortunately this rally group is a small portion of the audience who have seen Hair.
Also, they just had the free ticket giveaway for, plus the Father's Day promo is in place. They seem to be doing a bit to sell/get rid of tickets.

Posted: 6/17/10 at 6:48pmplus for a show that does so much audience interaction, to be doing it to a house that's only 1/3 (or even 1/4 as some people have reported during the week) full looks really bad, IMO. As much as I was hoping to see the show last the summer, if it's losing money and has little advance, there's no point to keep it open.

I love the show. I saw it 7 times, I admit it. That's because I got to know several members of the cast and adore them, so the show became a party for me. BUT - most of the cast members are okay with the closing. They accept it as part of an actor's life that shows close and they are looking forward. The effort to keep it open is sweet, but it's too late. The decision has been made and there are 13 shows left. The scene with the "80+" characters is embarrassing. They actually think they're part of the Tribe. What ever will they do after the 27th??? GET A LIFE.

The fact that FB can claim responsibility for the lovely Betty White getting to host SNL made people BELIEVE that it is a place for social change. Just like people believe that online petitions mean ANYTHING.
I loved the production, and liked the new cast. I'm even suprised they didn't feel they could make some money over the summer....but obviously, they know a heck of a lot more about the state of their future.
I've never been upset by a closing. Bummed when a show closed that I didn't get to see...but even good things come to an end. Thank you, HAIR, for a lovely experience.
