Any chance that Hair will be extended? I just think it's really weird that the producers would close the show before the summer is over, since they're almost made it to the summer already. 4th of July will bring in $.
It doesn't make sense

Posted: 6/10/10 at 11:06amNo - I mean maybe a week or two but the producers want the theatre for another show.

Posted: 6/10/10 at 11:08amConsidering that the show announced a June 27 closing date on June 9, I think it's pretty safe to say the show will play its final performance this month. Why would they bother to announce the June 27 closing at all if they would have to announce the extension 1-2 weeks later? Maybe if they had posted the closing notice a few months ago I could see them extending through the summer, but making the announcement so close to the actual date should be proof that the show is done.

It makes perfect sense to close now, Tking.
The show has been losing money for many weeks now, and yes there is a chance that summer tourists could boost the grosses but there is also a very good chance that the show could continue losing monety eroding the profits they have accumulated in the last year.
HAIR had a long run, made a profit, won some awards and entertained audiences for over a year. New let's get something fresh and new in.
And while we're at it we need fresh, new shows in the Majestic, Winter Garden and Gershwin theatres. I'm tired of the same shows playing there every time I come.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

"F*ck you" "No. Why would they?"
Boy, someone woke up on the wrong side of bed this morning. Maybe if you take a nap you'll be less cranky.
I think, but I'm not sure, that Hair has already been recorded for the archives. I'll find out for you, tking.

Thanks Ghostlight
but i was wondering if they are going to record it for DVD like Rent did with their final performance.
I really wish it wasn't closing, it hit me much harder than I expected it to

Why does everyone think that everything is going to get recorded? It's great that a handful of things have been recently, but the assumptions are rather silly.
I certainly hope Lincoln Center taped it before the original cast left.

Posted: 6/10/10 at 12:57pmBecause when you ask, you assume that it is logically possible? There's a huge difference between recording something that ran for over a decade and has a worldwide following and just another Tony-winning revival. There is nothing "with" me today, relax.

RENT was filmed because there was a market for it.
SOUTH PACIFIC is being filmed with PBS (presumably) footing the bill.

You mean like Company, which was just another revival and was recorded for public viewing?
I am relaxed, thanks, luvtheEmcee, and it certainly is logically possible - just not likely.
Theaterfan4, if he bugs you so much, just don't read his posts. Simple. No need to get so hostile and break the board's rules by using obscene language (the asterisk notwithstanding) and personal attacks.

See what Yankeefan said about PBS. That's a pretty different story than an exclusively commercial or theatrical release. Plus, the filming of Company was independently funded, and I am well aware that it was a rare case. I don't take that for granted for a second.
Fine, then. Logical and likely. I love this revival very much. I'm just being realistic.
