Who is playing Tracy on the demo? I bought it at the Broadway Flea Market and it doesn't sound like Marissa.
Thanks!

Annie Golden? That's awesome! I think she has a brillant voice but her "Good Morning Baltimore" sounds so different than "Welcome to the 60's"....
Are Broadway demos usually the entire set of musical numbers or just selected songs??
Well this one has:
-Good Morning Baltimore
-I'm a Big Girl Now
-I can Hear the Bells
-Welcome to the 60's
- You can't stop the beat

Welcome to the 60s isn't performed by Annie Golden. On a demo, you do not need to have continuity as far as performers go. 60s is sung by another woman whose name escapes me now, though I know Mr Shaiman has mentioned it.
I also have the much longer demo, which in addition to Golden's "Baltimore" has the male authors doing Dollhouse.. and the ORIGINAL version of Timeless with nathan lane doing BOTH roles.
Well I for one am very proud to associate with someone who has such nice things.
*interested in hearing Nathan Lane sing Edna's part*
Yeppers. Annie Golden only sings "Good Morning Baltimore" and Marissa sings "You Can't Stop the Beat". I forget the girl's name who sang the demos of "I Can Hear the Bells" and "Welcome to the 60's".
Also, Nathan is impersonating Harvey so he sounds EXACTLY like Harvey on the demo. If no one mentioned that it was Nathan, you could have sworn it was Harvey -- it's uncanny.
A brilliant girl named Josie Aiello sang WELCOME TO THE 60's
Nathan Lane sang the demo of TIMELESS TO ME half a year before Harvey was even thought of for the part. Sorry to contradict you.
You'll all be able to hear that demo and many others VERY SOON...
-Marc
oooooooooooooooooooo!
I've heard the demo AND he sounds exactly like Harvey.
Nothing to contradict -- that's what it sounded like to me, regardless if he recorded the demo 20 years earlier. It's a flat-out Harvey impersonation.
Nothing more; nothing less.
He sounds nothing like Harvey, he sounds gloriously like Nathan Lane with a little Edith Bunker thrown in...in other words, about as opposite Harvey as a person could be.
This is uncanny, because just today as we were flying to Johannesburg from Botswana, I listened to the extras that are about to come out on the expanded/deluxe/whatever it's called/CD of the soundtrack.
And Scott looked over at one point wondering what I was smiling and laughing at, and it was Nathan's interpretation of TIMELESS. Nathan Lane sort of channeling Jackie Gleason and Edith Bunker, yet totally Nathan at the same time.
So imagine how surprising it was to finally get to a hotel with Internet and see this thread, not 1 hour after listening to the actual demo.
I am happy that everyone will be able to hear it in a month.
And though I am perplexed by your "opinion", I am also glad you are so passionate to be so declarative!
Despite the aural facts.
Hugs and kisses from Johannesburg,
MS

Thanks for chiming in Marc. When can we expect pictures or ANYTHING from the South African production? I am very excited. I see many little chenges have been made to the physical production in London, and can't for more from there too! Hope all is well and happy belted birthday.
Yes, the Nathan version is THE original. It's a great treat to hear. he is distinctly nathan, and somehow manages to make Edna and Wilbur so different.. If only he could do BOTH roles on a stage.....
And now that you mention, I DO get the Edith in his Edna!
Cannot wait for the deluxe Hairspray CD! =)
and of course the DVD.

Haha, that's what I've been calling it.
Are there liner notes?

Reading this post reminds me of that Professor McLuhan moment in Annie Hall.
Life imitates art.
The demo I have has:

Welcome to the 60s

B,B,&B (Which is amazing and has many different verses than the Broadway B,B,&B)
Timeless (w/ Nathan, who sounds NOTHING like Harvey here.)

I wonder why it doesn't have YCSTB and ICHTB. hmm.
Marc, are we going to get the movie demo with Christine Ebersole singing the unused Velma song?
One of my fav pieces of music in Hairspray is what I call the "Dodgeball Ballet."
Just fun gorgeousness.
You ask if there is an unused Velma song on the expanded/deluxe/whatever it's called/CD of the soundtrack??
How about TWO!!
Christine Ebersole sings one and Patti Darcy the other and they are both fabulous!!
I've said too much!!
p.s. and yes BigFatBlonde, exactly!

Marc,
I've been hearing a lot of wonderful raves about the previews of HAIRSPRAY-LONDON! Sadly, I won't be able to see the show until next year.
Is there a chance of a London cast recording of the show? Michael Ball, Leanne Jones, et al, would sound wonderful in another recording of the show.
All the best for the show's opening on 30 October 2007!
