Whatever Lil' Clover, I'll call you whatever I darn well please. If you don't like it, don't read what I have to say.
And, don't play musical knowledge with me. You will LOSE. The fact that you listed Wicked, Les Miserables, Avenue Q, Hairspray, and ESPECIALLY POTO in your little tirade about REAL ARTISTIC music shows you know nothing. Go buy a recording of Puccini's The Girl of the Golden West. Listen to it, then listen POTO - then you'll understand why every time POTO makes a buck, a portion of it goes to the Puccini estate. Buy a recording of Puccini's Madama Butterfly, and you can see it's influences in Les Miserables.

Wait a minute, are we getting serious in this thread now? Noooo! I wanted to post some snarks in. Oh well.
I think Mr. Shaiman should write more figure skating-themed songs,

Loge...you seem to have some severe problem with certain "oh, oh, oh" and "yea yea yea's," in the HAIRSPRAY score. Keep in mind - since you're such a fan of the movie - that it takes place in the 1960's, and what kind of music was around in the 1960's? The score to HAIRSPRAY is the only score in recent years that recieved praise that actually deserved it. I don't usually listen to musicals while I walk (city) or drive (upstate,) but the month HAIRSPRAY came out, it never left my CD played in my car. The score is SO varied - from amazing ensemble numbers to soaring finale's and heartbreaking ballads, this score has everything. Even if you hate the score, how can "You Can't STop the Beat" NOT make you want to get up and dance?
I saw this show back in previews, expecting to hate it, as I said before. When that show ended (despite the fact that I cut school to go,) as I walked out onto 52nd street in the harsh afternoon daylight - I felt as if absolutely NOTHING could go wrong. It put me in the best mood in the entire world, and continues to do so every time i see it and for that, deserves my highest praise.

No, I don't mean Miss Saigon DUMBASS. Everyone knows it was influenced by Madama Butterfly - the gave credit where credit was due (like Larson with Rent, unlike ALW with POTO). Listen to The Humming Chorus in Madama Butterfly - there is a segment in the score of Les Miserables that is so obviously influenced by The Humming Chorus in Madama Butterfly.
The inflluences of opera are every where, and musical composers often make use of opera and classical works. I see nothing wrong with it, if credit is given. Webber takes an almost note for note passage from The Girl of the Golden West in the song The Music of the Night - almost note for note.

Umm, Loge - you said Musicals of our time - I assumed you meant Wicked, Ave Q, WOnderful Town, even fiddler (which recently came out) -
- I know there is no way you think South Park is better than, say, the King and I - or w/e.
Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS - you are officially the dumbest person on this board and should be kicked out for all your stupidity!
And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't try to tell me what musicals I should hear - I like the darker ones - yes, like les mis, and the funny ones like Full Monty. I've heard SO many different shows - you said Musicals of our time - Unless your 40 (in which case you should lock yourself up) - I am 18 and shows of my time are those starting with LES MIS, POTO, CATS, MISS SAIGON....
May I mention the fact that I said POTO has better music than South Park means A LOT!
Sum - was that Miss Saigon comment to me? I'm confused - lol sry!

Holy crap, jma- did you just classify Wonderful Town as being of the same time period as Avenue Q and Wicked and say that Fiddler on the Roof came out recently?
It's called a revival...

Ok, Lil' Clover, the score to South Park is much more original than POTO - again - you just don't know of what you speak. Marc didn't borrow passages, almost note for note mind you, from other composers to write his scores. That is why POTO (which does have a good score) lost Best Score to Into the Woods at the Tony's. I'm not arguing against POTO's score. I LOVE the show, but it was not, by and large, original.
Maybe I wouldn't think you were just a stupid little twit, if you listed say Ragtime, Side Show, and Parade (for example) in your little tirade.
Believe me, Lil' Clover, your insults don't bother me.

I meant the revival of course - lol
Seriously, I don't even know what I am typing anymore - she makes me so angry I can't even think.
But Fiddler (the original) is my favorite show - don't worry I know what's going on - my head is just cluttered with hatred and loathing!

Posted: 11/30/04 at 11:12pmactually Logeperson, the entire SOUTH PARK score is basically a lift from every score ever written, so...so....so there!!!

Posted: 11/30/04 at 11:14pmOh, and by the way? This battle of the theater queens is just as stupid as it sounds. Take a deep breath, everyone, look away from the monitor- yes, at that funny non-computer world- for a minute, and calm down. And I say this as someone who's had her share of idiot temper tantrums and lived to regret it.

I know Marc that the South Park score was totally based on a number of musicals from the past (Mermaid, Les Miz, etc), but it was still darn good.
And Lil' Clover, I'm a he, not a she. Just because my picture is that of a woman, does not mean I am one. Don't jump to assumptions.

Loge, you twisted b|tch - you have destroyed my brain!
