Sorry you feel that way. Hairspray is one of my very favorite shows. Marc Shaiman did a fantastic job. I love the music and just the show as a whole. I saw it 13 times and it never got old. It's such a feel good show. Lovin' it.

Well, if I had to judge Marc as a composer, I would agree with you - he can be brilliant. What he did with South Park was astonishing. It is one of my favorite musical creations ever. It is brilliant. But, I do not think Hairspray measures up to what he did with that. That's just my opinion though.

What are your thoughts on Wildhorn, ALW, and Steinman? Surely there are composers you don't care for Sumofallthings! Surely, you don't like everyone! So, you are saying there is something wrong with me (not loved as a child, boo-hoo) because I critcize Hairspray. So, essentially you are a hypocrite!

I think Steinman is remarkably good, his work on Tanz Der Vampires was quite well done. Also Whistle Down the Wind is a very intriguing piece of theatre.

I am a fan of certain ALW: Evita, Phantom, Sunset. When he really gets psychological.

I also appreciate Wildhorn for the ability to summon such great talent to his projects: Linda Eder, Anthony Warlow, Carolee Carmello not to mention those involved in Civil War.

Dance for me you puppet!

You have problems. South Park vs. Hairspray...are you KIDIDNG!?

I loved South Park but it does not compare to Hairspray.

Oy.

Capnkidd - you are referring to I Know Where I've Been - I believe.

So, you've never made a "negative" comment about a composer or his/her work?

I honestly think that is my overall problem with Hairspray. When I heard Marc was setting one of my favorite movies to the stage, I was thrilled. South Park was absolutely brilliant from first note to last, in every single fashion. I consider it to be one of the great masterpieces of our time. And, because of that, I will buy anything Marc does in the future, without a second thought. Still, I don't have to love everything he does, and I don't think Hairspray measured up to what he gave us with South Park. What is so wrong with that?

"He is also a damn good composer."

Well, I must admit he's brilliant in the way that he can adapt to different styles, but I have heard better.

To each his own Lil' Clover! I think South Park ranks up there with the greatest musica scores ever. Songs like "It's Easy Mmmkay", "Blame Canada", "Kyle's Mom" - okay every darn song in the score, are brilliant...musically and lyrically. Not only are they funny as sh*t, they are clever and exceptionally well written. Point out a weak lyric or musical passage? You cannot. There are none to be found!

His dog is cute. And, whatever, who wouldn't kill to have his talent. But, I much prefer South Park. Marc - your next project should be "Mary Cherry: The Musical".

Don't call me clover again.

The more you post, the more ridiculous you sound.

South Park was fine and dandy but in no way compares to Hairspray, Wicked, Les Mis, POTO, Ave Q, the producers.

Get out from under that rock and listen to REAL artistic music - not South Park. You make me angrier than a hippo with a hernia!

I would LOVE to see South Park on stage! I'm listening to it now, and it's oh so good. I just LOVE "I Can Change" and "What Would Brian Boitano Do?" Say - Marc - if you read this, did you have to get a release from Boitano? Oh, he's a cutie pie, and if you stage South Park, he could make a cameo! You could set up a little ice rink on stage so he could do his "two Salchows and a triple Lutz!"

I personally LOVED Hairspray and it was my absolute favorite show (saw it three times and am dying to go back) until a little show called Wicked came along. Loge doesnt seem to be getting started off on a good note here with all of these negative posts...just an observation...

Hairspray is a great show and I think it deserved every bit of critical and public praise it recieved. It is by far one of the best shows on Broadway now and it brought down the house every time I saw it. I just cant think of anything negative to say about Hairspray so I have to dissagree also. I think it IS that good. The book is phenomenal as well, and the music is unbelievably infectious and thrilling and flawless. Please if you have not seen this show, head to the Neil Simon now! It will blow you away!

PS: Sorry, Marc for misspelling your name in a previous post Hairspray! It's not good! Its PHENOMENAL!!! Updated On: 11/30/04 at 10:53 PM

I in no way think it ranks up there with the great musical scores. Certainly the funniest. But not the greatest and I think Marc (if he was being serious) would agree with me. It is hilarious but doesn't offer any real insight into anything specific. But it is pretty damn funny.

Loge I must agree - South Park should be put on the stage. THough no one could capture the voices as well as parker and stone. I don't think it would work - but the music is good.

I love I can Change, It's easy Mmkay, Blame Canada, Kyle's Mom

It still isn't as good as Hairspray!
