Wait a minute...
HAIRSPRAY is now a movie? When did that happen?
The soundtrack has been #1 on Amazon for a few days and itunes soundtrack charts and #2 on overall itunes album sales.
I hope it goes Gold.

I passed by the Neil Simon Theater just this weekend and HAIRSPRAY was still a stage musical. What happened?
The DVD of John Waters' Hairspray is #28 on Amazon DVD sales. The Broadway ticket sales are now at 00% and the OBCR is climbing the charts again. No doubt the original soundtrack has been moving too.
The new movie is just good for Hairspray all around.
It made its debut in the # 20 of the Billboard chart, which is pretty impressive for a film.
I have a feeling it will land in the top 10 this week.

It will be in the top 5 this week, with a chance of being number 4.
YAY.
Good for HAIRSPRAY. :)
It was completely sold out at the two Barnes and Nobles and one Borders we went to yesterday and today. We finally found one at Target. I know that's not exactly statistical, but I still think it's a good sign!
Miss P, sounds logical to me!!
I need to get it, since I don't enjoy the OBCR.
Harvey, great actor, but he can't sing to save his life, the same goes for Marissa.

I dont know why I cant view that site.
Does '34,749' mean TOTAL sales since the soundtrack dropped? or what is that number?

That is jut for THIS week, and only 56.78% of the sales have been reported. We will know the final numbers tonight.

All the copies are completely sold out at the store where I work at. (A Meijer store.) I haven't been to the other stores in my area, so I can't comment about them.
Hairspray is now at #4 with 50k.. the charts are 66% in. We should have the final numbers in a few hours.
If it is number 1-3, I'll die. :)

I ended up getting my copy at Walmart (partially for the DVD) after it being sold out at Best Buy, FYE and Circuit City) and even then there were only a handful of copies.
Hitsdailydouble.com is more of an estimation that actual sales figure site. After 11 am, check Billboard.com for the news story that covers the top 10 albums and new chart entries. Those numbers come directly from Soundscan.
#4 HAIRSPRAY 70,374 +81%
It says 'final.'
When does Billboard update their listings?
I'm so glad it's doing well. I'm having a hard time finding the damn cd because every place that's had it is OUT.

The Billboard charts are on their website (and least pieces of the charts--like the Top 100 of the Hot 200 albums, top 50 of the Hot 100 singles) on Thursday. The charts don't show the sales figures--the news story that posts by noon on Wednesday does mention the figures of the top 10 and some new chart entries.

I got mine at Archambault Musique (est 1896), Montreal. In Canada, the soundtrack's on the Decca label! As soon as I brought mine to the register, the clerk said, "Ahhhhhh, oui!" and put the store's copy on the store cd player.
Tres bon!

I bought the soundtrack right after seeing the movie. I think my favorite song is "The New Girl in Town." It's so catchy. I also like the little tag that comes a few seconds after "Mama, I'm A Big Girl Now" ends.
