#1Hairspray VS. Legally Blonde
Posted: 6/1/07 at 5:01pmI'm going to NYC in two weeks and I'm already seeing WICKED (of course) But I don't no if I should see legally Blonde or hairspray? I love the music of Hairspray and I like Alexa Vega and Ashely Parker or whater his name is that are in it right now.. But legally Blonde is brand new and up for like 8 Tony's.. What should I see?

Posted: 6/1/07 at 5:03pmI'd say Legally Blonde. It still has the original cast and depending on where you live you can probably check out Hairspray on tour.

i would reccomend HAIRSPRAY over LEGALLY BLONDE. the music, story, and pretty much everything in HAIRSPRAY is better than LEGALLY BLONDE. LEGALLY BLONDE was just kind of boring, with the exception of Laura Bell Bundy (who tries her best to carry that thing).
so yeah, go with HAIRSPRAY.

Posted: 6/1/07 at 5:38pmI haven't seen Legally Blonde, so i don't know if its good or not, but if i werre you i would see Leagally Blonde, its brand new, and thats exciting. But, Hairspray is amazing. And on the other hand Leaglly Blonde will tour eventually... Right, so either one should be fun!

That is the total extreme --- one is a heavy set heroine and another one a pretty slim heroine. Both were good and entertaining to my opinion- Ive seen both this year Hairspray (March) and Legally Blonde (April) I would probably recommend HAIRSPRAY bec. of the following reasons:
1. Hairspray's Score is better than Legally Blonde. There's a show stopping number one after another, while Legally Blonde best numbers were the opening number and
end of act 1 , while some numbers were slow for me.
2. Its a good deal. I paid around $60.00 for a Orchestra seat Row C Center thru playbill discount vs. $ 60.00 mezzanine rear for Legally Blonde
3. Hairspray has more of a depth than Legally Blonde.
I hope this help- Enjoy your trip to NYC ! BTW- a new show with original cast members does not necessary mean good night at the theater bec. some of the new musicals this season were pretty forgettable ! (with the exeption of Grey Gardens & Spring Awakening)

Posted: 6/1/07 at 6:00pmHAIRSPRAY. No sense in repeating reasons. Jayystar and DRG are spot on as to why.

Posted: 6/1/07 at 8:14pmHairspray is my favorite musical, I just think it's pointless to see a show you could probably see on tour.

Well, Legally Blonde may be up for 7 Tonys, but Hairspray won 8.

Hairspray
While Legally Blonde is new and still has the OBC, Hairspray is a Tony Award Winner for Best Musical.

Posted: 6/1/07 at 9:29pmJust because Hairspray is touring doesn't mean it will tour in her area...especially after already touring most of the country and turning over to non-Equity. Legally Blonde has yet to tour (and probably will), so she might have a better chance of catching that in her area over Hairspray. Go see Hairspray on Broadway and save Blonde for later.

Nonsense - not a masterpiece, but a helluva fun (and funny) show. I enjoyed both Hairspray and LB; I'd go with LB personally, just because I think the cast would be a bit fresher than Hairspray. Just my $0.02.

Posted: 6/2/07 at 12:43amI would say Hairspray because the music is consistantly better. Also, if you like Ashley Parker Angel and Alexa Vega it is a great opportunity because the Tracey is also amazing. Don't worry about the fact that Hairspray tours because so will Legally Blonde no matter how many Tony's it wins because The Wedding Singer is.

Just Chillin-Alexa still sucks, can't compare to Diana
ANYWAY, SEE HAIRSPRAY!!! It's my fave show ever!!!! Plus you'll want to see it before it becomes a summer blockbuster! Ashley Parker Angel is a great Link and a super sweet guy! It's the greatest feel-good show and has the catchiest, upbeat songs! Legally Blonde was def. cute, but if you have to choose it's HAIRSPRAY all the way!

Posted: 6/2/07 at 2:08amI completely disagree with what's been said so far. I enjoyed Hairspray, I would see it again if anyone wanted to go with me, but Legally Blonde is completely fresh, the cast is 100% FANTASTIC, and it was just the most fun two and a half hours I spent in a theater this season. Hairspray felt long to me in places, and the guest I brought didn't like it at all, and all four people I have taken to Legally Blonde have walked away LOVING it and humming the score. I'd go with Blonde.

I can't make it to the Fresno, CA stop of the Hairspray tour...so I am thinking, I should just see it in bway.
Anybody have an idea how long it is gonna be in Broadway?
#22re: Hairspray VS. Legally Blonde
Posted: 6/2/07 at 8:10amSee Legally Blonde. The reason you can get cheap orchestra seats to Hairspray is because nobody wants to go. It has been open long enough now that the whole thing feels tired. I was extremely bored and unimpressed when I went this past year. While Hairspray's music is fun to blast in your car, Legally Blonde's music in context is amazing. You have to see it to understand it. Also I have seen Blonde twice now and Nikki Snelson, Christian Borle and Kate Shindle alone are worth the price of admission. See something new, not something falling apart.

i admit the cast of LEGALLY BLONDE is very talented, but i just thought the material was weak. maybe just because im a guy, but all those...jokes in LEGALLY BLONDE just weren't all that funny. but i just think all the jokes and such in HAIRSPRAY seem to appeal to everyone. and the HAIRSRPAY movie is coming out soon, so it'd be cool for you to see the movie, and then see how it compares to the show.
LEGALLY BLONDE is in no ways bad at all, just HAIRSPRAY is the better show.

Posted: 6/2/07 at 11:31amwell im a guy and i laughed my arse of a LB , the jokes were very funny, i also think the show is a lot fresher than Hairspray and its always cool to see a show with its original cast.
