re: Hairspray closing?

Another bit off-topic: I was checking the Sirius schedule, and I don't see this Jason Drew listed. When is he on?

re: Hairspray closing?

Cannot see this closing for a little while yet - maybe it was the Las Vegas show?? I hope that closes so the set can be transported to the UK for Hairspray premiere here!! It was shelved after the Las Vegas show bought our set!!

re: Hairspray closing?

jv92 darling, Beauty & the Beast is never closing. It will without a doubt be the longest show ever to run on Broadway, ever, ever. It's the first Disney show. And those Disney shows ain't never closin'. Never, ever. Beauty's 10+ years and she's still kickin' up a storm.

oh...
i wonder if they'll stunt cast again... maybe!

re: Hairspray closing?

I personally wish Hairspray, The Producers and Beauty and the Beast would close already. It's time to make way for some new shows....

re: Hairspray closing?

wanna be a foster, DIsney does let their shows close. Look at AIDA.
#35

re: Hairspray closing?

AIDA doesn't count. It does not have a loved children's movie that sells millions of copies every year. Not to mention it wasn't exactly for kids anyway.

re: Hairspray closing?

As far as i'm concerned, BATB should've closed and AIDA should still be running!

Okay...first of all Hairspray and Producers are two of the higher grossing shows currently on Broadway. In fact, this week, Hairspray grossed about $200,000 more than Avenue Q! I don't see anyone saying Avenue Q should close. I'm not saying it should either. Anyways, Beauty and the Beast is still pulling in a decent amount of money. It's not fair to let these shows close just because we need to make room for more shows. If the show is pulling in high grosses and is popular to the general public, then it should stay open. Sweet Charity closed. Fiddler on the Roof closed. It seems that there's always been room...

Sweet Charity shouldnt have closed though re: Hairspray closing?
but thats a whole other topic...

re: Hairspray closing?

While it would be nice to see Beauty and the Beast close, I would hardly call Hairspray or The Producers old.

re: Hairspray closing?

Hairspray was a big hit for a while. A few years ago, when Kathy Brier was Tracy or maybe even before then, wasn't it hard to get tickets?
#42

re: Hairspray closing?

It was hard, but it was never Producers/Wicked/Spamalot hard. You could go up to the box office any given day and get a ticket. That happened to me.
#43

re: Hairspray closing?

Really? I thought it was pretty hard to get tickets when I saw it On Broadway.
#44

re: Hairspray closing?

Even if it wasn't as hard to get tickets as Spamalot is was a HUGE hit and got much more publicity and is very well known outside the Broadway community. It's had a huge impact more than any show besides Wicked and the Producers.

re: Hairspray closing?

I thought Bruce Villanch was outstanding.

re: Hairspray closing?

I think Beauty is finally getting the juice it needs, starting with Brown . . . and a new Potts, Babette, and Lefou have come in since. I'm thinking that Steve Blanchard will be out by April . . .

re: Hairspray closing?

HAIRSPRAY BWAY is NOT closing...repeat HAIRSPRAY bway is NOT closing...
The NATIONAL TOUR IS closing in June. I'm sure that is what he was talking about. The bway show has at least another year left in it.
I don't understand you people on this board, you say you love bway and actors and then you wish for shows to close???? That is really messed up.
#48

re: Hairspray closing?

Yay so thy can ship the National Tours set to the UK ?!?!

Also...Id bet Beauty closes this Spring. I cant see Disney having Five shows out (with Little Mermaid) and given the size of The Luntt and in the gross the show produces its doesnt do too well really. Id bet A Chrous Line moving in...just my two pence, but i really cant see the show lasting much longer.

re: Hairspray closing?
