Hairspray closing?

On sirius broadway channel this afternoon, Jason Drew said that hairspray was closing soon. Did thety announce this and I missed it? I did a search but nothing came up

It's a flop. It's outta here. Closes February 32nd.

I think they were talking about the Vegas version. Although it has not opened yet there is a rumor that it will still close soon.

Even if it closes, Hairspray was hardly a flop.

it seems like it would close on bway too- the show hasnt been doing to well in my opinion

Jason Drew is a host on Sirius Satellite radio's broadway channel. I'm not sure who he is after that though but Sirius is based in NYC and have lots of broadway stars on their shows

Praying Decca Broadway will put "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope" on CD!

I'm gonna say that lasta 8 more months with the business that it's doing. I can see that Beauty and the Beast and The Producers closing within 1 and a half to 2 years.

The stunt casting begins in March. They've already approached Loretta Swit about playing Edna Turnblad.

The stunt casting already started! Michael McKeon and Bruce Villanch.
They will keep this open until the Hairspray movie is released. It is still doing good business. It just needs a shot in the arm with some inspired casting.

I heard that today too on Sirius, he said to make room for all the new musicals "like A Chorus Line.."...etc..etc...

But yeah, I thought it was staying, but Jason Drew knows his crap--"the broadway baby Jason Drew"..heart him :)

and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...

I dunno...Hairspray hasn't played to an audience below 60% attendance yet, I don't think. I think it's got at LEAST another year to run, and if it lasts out until the movie, then it'll probably get a shot in the arm and keep on movin'.

Bruce Vilanch was the only other person close to Harvey.
I hope Hairspray runs for 12 more years.

This is the second time I've heard this. My dad was listening to Sirius in the car while I take a nap, and when I woke up he's like 'Did you hear Hairspray was closing?'

I came here and checked, but no news.

It's a little off topic, but I think that Mel Brooks and Co. aren't going to close "The Producers" untill it beats "Oklahoma!"'s run of 2,212 performances (I think). After that, I think they'll have some big ceremony and have a bunch of people call it better than "Oklahoma!" durring speeches and then close it.

It can't close! I still have to see it! I love the recording... but I missed it when it visited Chicago for like, a week. I know it needs some good casting though...

I think they're trying something different with the new schedule, dropping Wed and adding a Sun evening, since weekdays aren't the best for the show.
