Posted: 11/23/06 at 1:30amFor 50 years, the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera did their own mountings of Broadway shows, for the first 30 years while the shows were still running on Broadway. Too bad Los Angeles lost such a wonderful resource. Oh, and they also originated Kismet, Song of Norway and pretty well every flop Wright and Forrest had after that (including "At The Grand" starring Paul Muni as Kringeline which was remade later as "Grand Hotel.")

"Oh Rent Jr..cool!"
I find it appalling that ANYONE would have authorized it. Jonathan Larson is rolling in his grave. No matter what anyone thinks of the show, I think we should be appalled at the editing (and what appears to be censorship) in ANY show, just for a kid-friendly version. Some shows weren't meant for kids.

They have added a character: Norton the NoNo Needle, who warns the kids about the dangers of shooting up in a rap cameo.

Okay, people, as amusing as you think this is, it isn't Rent Jr., it's a high school version. Jr. shows are for middle school kids, not high schools.
The Rent school version has had two workshop productions so far, and the Larson family is working VERY closely with MTI in developing this project. So, if Jonathan is "rolling in his grave", you can thank the members of his family for their contribution.

Posted: 11/23/06 at 7:57pmrandom question, but: i was reading the HAIRSPRAY: Book and Lyrics, book and during the last scene like during "It's Hairspray" and "Cooties" and such, is the character Brenda, who left the show in the beginning in which Tracy replaced, is she in it or not? Also, is it mentioned or "implied" why Brenda left the Corny Collins show?
#38re: Hairspray rights
Posted: 11/23/06 at 9:58pmok...never mind! was reading the book and Brenda comes in at the end of "(It's) Hairspray". and is it true that she leaves the Corny Collins show due to the fact she's pregnant (i heard that somewhere, and i haven't yet seen the show, and the book doesn't specify it).

it is implied.
Corny Collins says something to her "And Brenda, how long will your leave of absence be?"
and Brend repsonds "Nine Months!"

"The show was done at North Shore Music Theatre in Massachussetts but they paid big money for it (250k is the rumor) and I think that there was a cut of the door given to MTI."
This 250K rumor is ridiculous and untrue. NSMT paid nothing beyond the stadard licensing agreement. We just had to lobby hard to get them early. Simple as that.
There has been no Press Release about the 2007 Season. There has been literature printed and mailed for subscriptions and renewals that included a blurb about the 6th show that can not be legally announced. It is also on our website. But nothing has been said to the press. As for if that 6th show is Les Miserables.. you will have to wait one day more for that information. The full season will be announced on 11/27/06.
