Yes but isn't JC supposed to be immortal??
Patti as Evita is iconic, correct. But at her age, she can in no way convincingly play a 15-33 year old woman. It's going to look ridiculous and pull you out of the show completely. I hope they cast a young, (relatively) new actress to play Evita. That would for sure be a breakout role.

Tina Arena is playing Eva. As far as star casting goes, I'm actually quite pleased with it! She can actually sing and has theatre experience but will definitely put bums on seats that mightn't be there otherwise.
WOW! great casting--thanks Steph and considering Tina has such a great Broadway voice am pleased she is going to use it again.

Tina Arena!?! I loved her Chains song and Duet of Enough is Enough. However, she is 50 years old....
Emma Kingston is Eva in the Hal Prince version going to South Africa.

Don't care if they push her out in a wheel chair, Arena will be stunning in this.

Okay I'm just throwing it out there if we can get a 50 year old Evita can we PLEASE get Patti back? Concert production maybe?
Tiny Tina as 'we' used to call her back in the Young Talent Time days and today, not much taller, but looks remarkably good for 50 and can certainly appear much younger when dressed accordingly.
Sing out Tina--can't wait to hear you sing those classics.
Saw Lupone in Sydney and all I can remember are her curtain calls and I'm kindly saying that Ms Lupone now looks a little 'matronly'?
I'm shocked she's 50. She's could pass for 15 years younger without much effort.
Tina has an amazing voice - and was pretty much the only reason to see Notre Dame de Paris in London. So much so that when Danni Minogue replaced her she proceeded to mime (allegedly) the main song to Tina's click track. Nice of them to give the audiences something good to listen to - if only for a few minutes.

Thanks for sharing those... I always liked Tina Arena so I'm hopeful this production has legs and continues a "world tour" - perhaps a new recording (especially since the Elena Rogers one is so lacking)
Isn't this production aimed to eventually make it's way to New York? I think Playbill posted something about Hal Prince wanting to have it back on Broadway.
Are they still using "You Must Love Me" and the new orchestrations from the last revival? It's the original staging with the new orchestrations?

I forget where I read that CATSNY - but I do recall that they were using the new orchestrations and "You Must Love Me" with Hal Prince's direction/staging. So I take it that means they shifted the "Che" character to be more antagonistic towards Eva/Peron throughout.
